Why is that I sometimes cannot select a starting point in sketch to create a line or a spline

This has befuddled me for a long long time and I cannot find an answer by just googling. The instructions say that to create a line, you just click on the first endpoint and go from there. My problem is that sometimes I just cannot cllck to get a starting endpoint. I click on the screen somewhere the magic cross-hatch doesn't appear where I click. Instead, it appears just somewhere else on the screen. The problem is a slight variation if I want to start the line at a point on a curve. Sometimes I can hover over a point, and I see a little box, and I can cllick and the line starts at the point. Other times, i hover and I just don't get a box over the point and I can never click to start the endpoint at that point on the curve.

The same thing can happen if I want to create a spline -- I cannot start where I click.

This has been driving me CRAZY for ages now.

Are you on the correct sketch plane?

Are you in 2D sketch or are you in 3D sketch?

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?

Are you familiar with p for Project from one sketch to another?

Can you post screenshots?

Well, I was going to try and capture a video or something, but when I
restarted fusion, the problem disappeared!

Uggh.
