Previously I have been able to create full screen video screencast with Screenflow (2556 x 1440 resolution) an was able to fluently manipulate and drag things around in the viewport. The lag now in the viewport even with a very simple assembly makes this unusable. Even in 1920 x 1080 I notices the same unacceptably laggy behavior.

The initial title to this thread was that since the update viewport performance took a bad hit.

The reason things behaved so laggy was a contact set In the users file that I did not see. I've noticed many times that when contact sets are used even in the simplest form together with one or more joints things quickly become very laggy.

For the most part I find Contact set a neat theoretical concept that due to performance reasons have very little practical application for real stuff. They create more problems than they solve and should be prohibited by law and punished to the maximum extend by false over constrained error messages when sketching 😉

I was aware as well as iv'e been closely following the posts on the forum 😉

I changed the title of the thread as I was again tricked by the presence of a contact set in the file of a user I was trying to help.

Hi TrippyLighting,
a very pointed rant. I agree with you, for the most part and think we really need to take a look at their current implementation and fix them so they work as intended and have better communication about their presence and state (enabled or disabled) so that their impact on performance is as close to non-existant as possible. Will bring it up with the team.

i ran fusion360 on win10 on an azure hc44 instance to see if contact sets would behave when given additional computing resource... did you ever find any solutions to make them play nicely?

Animate model - contact sets on… (no response from model)

(also no response with manual/drag part motion)

Animate model - contact sets off… (model animated as expected)

Baseline (idle)
