appearance get removed from face if i edit sketch

after i have finished my design and assembled everything, i often apply some colors to bodies and faces, this helps me better spot mistakes and/or things i can't see without it. It also help me visualize the part i'm making

what i have spotted today is, if i go i my design and edit a sketch, after i click on finish sketch, some faces don't have the color applied to them, but instead they have the color applied to body. it does not matter on what component/sketch i do the edit, the removal of the faces color seem random to me.

does anyone know why this is happening?

in the image below i edited the left side and 3 other components got the appearance removed

Are you still having issues with Appearances?
If so, would you be able to attach a screen recording to show the behaviour? As this will help greatly in investigating possible reasons for the buggy behaviour.
So far, i have not been able top reproduce the issue. If you could share the file and some steps on how to reproduce the issue, it would be most appreciated.

it may help to change the graphics driver setting to "Open GL" in the preferences

I have definitely encountered this behavior, myself, as well. The next time I hit it, I will try to remember to grab a screen record session to share. I am using the DX11 driver, and have not tried swapping it to the OGL driver to see if there are any differences in behavior yet. I just assumed this was a face naming issue and Fusion was losing track of which face was which when it recomputes extrusions.

I opened your file … and have told myself … no, too much time to dig into it.

Nevertheless, I hypothesise that your design might be proof or not of the dis-appearance phenomena.

It will be up to you to check it!

Let’s start:

Your design is mixt of parametric and nonparametric objects (base feature entities)
Applying appearance to a parametric object modifies its constituency permanently
Thus exposing the change to potential recomputing/re-rendering process in a reliable way
Applying appearance to base feature entity can be done in two ways:
By re-editing the base object itself at its core (start edit–base feature, commit-base feature)
The above action will be permanent; as we deal with the base object, it will not be re-computed.
The second way of applying an appearance to a base feature is directly from the parametric design level.
In this case, only the respective transient&dangling transaction will be added to the design.
More likely than not, such unreliably attached transactions will be lost in the successive recomputing of a design.
Sketch editing triggers a re-compute of the design or its part, which depends (even softly) on the sketch.
The transient&dangling transaction might be lost in the process, so also the new appearance.

Address the above in the context of your design … and tell us about the failure or the success.

well, i am more confused then before. 😅
i'm just a hobbyist and i learned fusion on my own by doing stuff.

so basically, first of all thank you for taking your time to explain all of the above, but, is it possible to explain in just as little as possible as to why a sketch and an extrusion would lose its appearance after editing the sketch.
consider me as a 5 year old 😅

I have spoken with Fusion Support about this exact issue, and it is a known bug. The problem is that things are being recalculated when you edit something earlier in the timeline, and the appearance application, though it has no specific entry in the timeline, has a specific time that it is applied in the sequence. If you edit before the appearance was applied, there is a chance that when it recalculates the appearance, it will not apply as you would expect, and lead to the situation that you're seeing.

A couple of options to try when you encounter this. After you've made your update, roll the timeline marker back to where you were making your updates in the timeline (wherever the sketch was created, etc.), and then roll forward one step at a time to see if the appearance is recalculated correctly. Sometimes this works, sometimes it works partially, sometimes it just doesn't work.

The only real option after that is to re-do the appearance, unfortunately, at least until Autodesk can figure out a way to fix this one, but given how long this bug has existed and the persnickety nature of it, I wouldn't count on it going away any time soon.

Hi Mr IulianCalin22,

I opened your file again … and have told myself … yes, will have a brief look into it.

At first, I fixed some yellow rigid groups. There are some other problems with the timeline, which should also be addressed if one wants to maintain the cohesion of his/her/its design.
I suspect there are some dangling appearance transactions applied to the critical face. They are hidden and not visible in the interface. In suspicious cases, it is good practice to clear the appearance overwrite. I applied appearance to both faces of the panel and its body (in the separate file).
The results are attached.
My previous elaborations still apply; thus, what about upgrading reading comprehension from 5-years-old to at least 7+ ?. All The Best.
