the presspull command is extrude and offset face, it depends on what you are doing to how it works.

Is there a way to constrain the move of a body or component to either of the axis?

yes and no it depends on what you have selected as your sketch plane and what you have got selected under preferences as your default modeling preferences Y up or Z up

in this image I selected front, Z is the blue line, Red is the X axis, green is the Y

how you have your axis does not matter all that much if you do the cam in fusion you can change it

Hi, I'm new to this forum and Fusion 360. A friend and I, both retired and enjoying machining as a hobby, are trying to learn the program, I have been going through a lot of videos and the items in the help file and not found what I'm looking for.

Are the Bodies created by the press/pull and the extrude commands different, if so, how do they differ?.

Is there a way to constrain the move of a body or component to either of the axis?

An answer to these questions or directions to where I can find the answers would help me move on with the learning process and would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Svend

Hello @svenko

Difference between Extrude/PushPull commands:

Extrude works on sketch profiles and/or planar faces.

PushPull works on faces and/or edges

Invoking PushPull on a sketch profile turns it into an Extrude command

Invoking PushPull on an edge turns it into a Fillet command

PushPull has 3 offset modes (1. Automatic, 2. Modify Existing, 3. New)

Modify Existing, modifies a previous feature. So a 2mm Fillet can be changed to a 4mm Fillet for example.

New Offset does not change the feature itself, but offsets the feature to a new distance.

Automatic probably chooses between both Modify and New, but I have not figured out the logic behind that.

Bodies created are the same whether using Extrude or PushPull. The difference will be in the timeline and the feature type you create.

The best way to constrain body/component/sketch entity movements to a certain axis, is to adjust your view to that particular plane. This way the move gizmo, will only give you handles that translate/rotate in that particular plane.
