Is there a way to weld vertices in patch mode?

I created this faces extruding a thunder sketch and intersected it to an elliptical dome. Is there a way for me to weld vertices in patch mode so that the thunder shape all slopes down to the perimeter of the ellipse? Or do you think there's another way to tackle this problem?

No you can't do that, but I know another way but I would need you model to show you.
