Hi,

So it seems there's a new bug that doesn't allow me to remove component in rigid group. I even deselecting all the components and it seems those change didn't apply. Here's a screencast

Also in the future, is it possible to add an option to the move command to ignore components in a rigid group? Cause what I wanted is for the rigid group to be updated without having to manually remove the component from the group and then having to re-add it into the group.

The best action would be, to use the Timeline and to go back in time, when you create this Rigid Group and Deselect this component.

Cause Fusion doesn't have a Part and Assembly? As all of it is components?

You may ask, What about External Reference?
Well until they implement in-part edit or whatever they want to call it, till then, having to open the component in another window and losing other component references just doesn't make sense.

And why I didn't model it in Timeline?
2 things;
1. My project usually results in huge number of components, means it'll result in a horrible long timeline that will be filled with issues
2. My work usually involves unexpected changes, so history based modelling doesn't really cut it.

And Fusion doesn't allow me to combine both modelling in the same file.

But seriously, the bug that I mentioned never happened before, I'm not sure which update broke it.

Yes, this is definitely a bug. Rigid group edit allows add, but fails to remove objects which get de-selected. The bug exists in both History and Direct Modeling designs. We are working on a fix, hopefully to be released soon.

Hi @O.Tan

Fusion doesn't have and will never have Part and Assembly files separately!

Fusion is built on a Top Down design workflow with a specific mindset. The direct modeling, is good when you are working on a single part and you know what you are doing.

If you have a lot of errors in your Timeline, that means (in most cases) that you have deleted a reference body or a sketch. If you are doing a lot of changes, then you should learn how to work with the Timeline. It will make your life so much easier.

If far as I can see, you are working on Fusion the same way you worked on the other CAD program and that is not wise. Get to know Fusion first and forget about how other CAD programs work. What's the point on changing a CAD program if you are expecting the new CAD program to work the same? They are ALL the same but different.

Unfortunately, I can't help with this issue, maybe someone from the Fusion team can help you.

Then by your words, Fusion team shouldn't have created X-Ref as it goes against what you just said.

And sorry, but direct modelling has its strengths, just as history based as well and to say it's good when you're working on a single part is simply inaccurate.

FYI, Fusion timeline records everything, more then a traditional history based CAD, again it can be a good or bad thing but as I've mentioned, my work involves unexpected design changes hence traditional history based isn't suitable for my use case and in case you didn't know, Fusion started as this thing called Inventor Fusion which was originally a direct modelling based CAD. So Fusion "timeline" is a feature added later and it'll also explain why Fusion timeline works as it is; recording every single user command.

And I'm not sure if you saw my previous post, but having to use multiple CAD software before shows my willingness to learn new things. So this isn't a matter of forgetting the old stuffs and do it differently, it's more of something essential not being there and the replacement isn't provided. I've already mentioned my workaround but as it's still a workaround, not a replacement or something better.

Fusion single environment has its strengths but it's not without its weakness and its weakness is what I'm commenting about and in the past has submitted suggestions for improvements

You can use "Create-Base feature" at any point in time in a timeline based design. When within that base feature you can use direct modeling.

With some forethought that allows you to combine the best of timeline and history based modeling.

This isn't a great solution... however it was a bit of a bandaid that helped fix the problem for me. While editing the part I was trying to unlock (or remove from the rigid group) I slid my timeline marker back in time (I went back to just before my first sketch) and then after it loaded there I slid my timeline back to the end, where my part was fully drawn. Then it was no longer in the rigid group. I have no idea if this will work for you or not, but good luck. Also, my part was extremely simple, so I really have no idea if it will work for a more complicated part.

Good luck, I hope they make a better fix for this bug in the future.
