Hi,

So I'm trying to align the round meshes generated for this box shaped sheet metal that I design, somehow I'm only able to align it on one end, but I'm unable to do so on the other end.

Correctly aligned

Notice on the highlighted face, the top hole edge isn't aligned properly

Thanks

Hello Omar,

I'm assuming here you want to evenly distribute a given hole distance on a box.

You could model the mesh plate, on the other hand if this is for cosmetics, you're better off with the appearance.

The Automatic projection does a pretty good job for aligning the mesh, that is, if the box is the correct size, (multiple of the hole distance).

I made a box of 6 separate patch faces, then you can move the individual texture maps around to +- match the measurements of the box, even if not a multiple of the hole distance.

Edit: Turns out that this is exactly what automatic projection does...

Then again, in real life, this will only work if you can use separate plates to construct the box, if you are going to bend you are probably better to use a multiple of the hole distance.

Hope is of any help.

This thread reminded me of a bug I want to report anyways with the Box UV mapping. I had forgotten about it.

Your right though automatic mapping should work but I have seen times it doesn't and you have to align each face manually.

The UV mapping tools need more attention.

Thanks for the replies, it's mainly cosmetic as it'll be made using round hole perforated stainless steel sheet metal.

So after applying the "Stainless Steel Mesh - Holes Small" appearance to the component, I selected the component + right click and selected "Texture Map Controls" which I then use the Move tool to "fix" the holes but it didn't work on all sides, my projection type is set to Box.

And it seems I'm unable to specifically select one of the faces to manually fix it.

Try automatic mapping because there is a bug in the box UV mapping. (It should work) If automatic doesn't work turn you box into 6 surfaces so you can adjust the UV's separately.

It's a pain but I think it's the only other option you have. I really wish we had more control....

Hi,

I checked our box texture mapping implementation and it seems to me that it is worked as designed. The box texture mapping is implemented in the way so we can map each of the directions by a planar map that makes sense when looking from “above” in that direction. There is no guarantee that the texture coordinates are consistent long the box edges. To achieve your target, you are probably better to make sure the box size is a multiple of the texture sample size. You can try to edit the texture sample size by using the material advanced editor as below.

Thanks
