I'm drawing a bike frame.

In the process I'm creating many offset planes.

Q:

Is it "better"/wise to keep all offset planes in the main heading (not sure of the terminology),

OR, would it be better/wise to create each new plane in the sub-category for which it is used?

Or, does it even matter?

Many thanx.

-G

Hi @Anonymous,

The answer depends on what behavior you want, to be honest. If these are "global" planes, then it makes sense to put them in the root component (that's what we call the main folder of the design). For instance, if these planes define the outer boundaries of the entire design, then it makes sense to put them there. However, if these are component-specific planes, and you want them to move when that component moves, then you should activate that component before creating them, so that the plane exists within that component. It will move with the component, and visibility will be controlled by the visibility of that component as well.

Hope that answers your question, at least a little bit.

Jeff

Big Thanx! to you, Jeff for taking the time to reply.

I do appreciate even tidbits of info as they trickle in, as I progress with F360.

Your answer totally makes sense.

And, it is these bits of foundational knowledge that will make this--and future projects--a lot more streamlined and "easier" to get through as my own experience increases; I will thus be able to see for myself what works for me, that project, and WHY.

The WHY is the biggie for me. I always want to know the WHY--which so many of the vid-casts fail to explain (even a simple sentence WHY you want to uncheck the "include children" box, or whatever. The WHY will answer so many future questions, simple questions, that can easily turn molehills into mountains when that WHY remains in the vast unknown).

Again, many thanx for taking the time.

-G
