topic Re-Order Sketches? in Fusion Design, Validate & Document Forum

I can re-order all of my bodies, but I cannot seem to do the same with sketches. I would like to be able to re-order my sketches so that I can keep certain sketches together for easier navigation. Is there any way to do this, or is this feature not working?

Reorder where, in the browser, or in the timeline ?

It also sounds like sounds like you are not following

Fusion 360 R.U.L.E #1
When in doubt, before doing anything, create a component and make sure it's activated.
All objects created after activating the component such as sketches, bodies, construction geometry, joint origins, etc. are created in that component.

This has several advantages:

On activation the timeline is filtered to show only those items in the timeline that pertain to that component. That will make the quickly growing timeline much easier to work with.

If a component is exported to the data panel with "save as" this will also export the complete parametric design history.

The joints in the "Assemble menu only work with components.

Drawings can only be created from components

Only components show on the BOM

Hm, OK. Im a bit new to Fusion, what if I have a sketch that is used for multiple components? My plan was to create all of the bodies I needed for one particular part of my build, and then create components from the bodies. Sounds like I may have done things a bit backwards.

No, what you are describing is a perfectly fine workflow!

There re exceptions any rule and this is one 😉

That workflow is often referred to as skeletal modeling. In my experience here on the Forum this is often used in Woodworking projects e.g. plywood constructions often start with one base sketch that is used to create multiple components.

Any components that will not be created from a skeletal sketch should, however contain all sketches, bodies etc that pertain to it.

I will give it a try. Sound like a much better way of organizing my project. Thanks for the quick reply!

Further to this topic. I often have to use sketches when in the Manufacturing tab, to define part zero points that are neither stock or model points. I tried to drag the sketches I created to reorder them because sometimes I want to change the order of operations. When I tried this a few times it just crashed Fusion 360. (My PC is highly underspec'd so that may be the issue)

I move back in the time line if I want to add a component in a particular order. You can do the same for sketches some times unless you need other parts in place for the sketch plane
