ahh, so I need to break the link when I first import the part into an assembly if I'm going to do a circular or rectangular pattern. It wouldn't let me break it after I'd done that, likely because the copies were all dependent on the first couple I brought in to start the pattern.

Thanks for helping me with this, it was driving me crazy.

John

I've created a new file where I imported several of the same bodies from another file into, and created an array using rectangular pattern feature in the create menu . I'm trying to create a sketch (I've tried on the XZ plane and created an offset plane on the very tops of the bodies) where I've drawn a rectangle that encompasses the area I'd like to remove from one edge.

When I try and extrude I can create a new body or component, but cannot do a cut extrude or intersect on these parts to create one edge that leaves some components hole, while bisecting other components and removing half.

Here's a link to the file:

http://a360.co/2dzOUNl

Hi @Anonymous,

In order to work and edit Linked (imported) Components, you must break the link. You can't do much with Linked Component beside Joining them to your assembly.

Thanks for the reply Ben,

I did try to break the link several times but that was in the assembly itself and it wouldn't allow me to. Maybe I need to break it in the original part?

I'll see what I can do,

John

Hi John,

Thank you for sharing the solution! After patterning linked components, you can also break links after selecting "Do not capture design history" in the browser. (but this will delete design history) Just for your reference!
