&lt;P&gt;That is correct, you need to create a new sketch for projecting a sketch on a curved surface.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;

      <description>&lt;P&gt;Hey there, I am very new to Fusion 360 and CAD/CAM programs in general.Im trying to project text(DXF file)&amp;nbsp;on a curved suface and then create a engraving G code &amp;nbsp;program .I keep getting this error when trying to project the&amp;nbsp;text onto a &amp;nbsp;surface &amp;nbsp;and not sure what I'm doing wrong&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;FONT face="Calibri" size="3"&gt;Warning: Not support projecting sketch geometry into same sketch, please change the target sketch or geometry.&lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;FONT face="Calibri" size="3"&gt;Any tips/help appreciated &lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;</description>

&lt;P&gt;Here is one way you can do it. Since you have a dxf file you wont need to extrude the geometry first just select your sketch instead of the geometry.&lt;/P&gt;
