I found out how to get rid of the trimmed bit, but I'm still wondering why one can't simply delete such things normally.

Hi,

There is only a model file attached. It's not clear what you are talking about.

I can take a guess, however. Are you talking about Delete vs Remove?

Thanks,

I've twice attached a sc created with autodesk's app and server. i've had nothing but grief using this forum as far as ease of use. I've another question while I'm at it and that is why can I not get into the sculpting mode from any drop down menu?

I'm pasting screencasts from the 'my screencast' tab in this message window. They show up when I post it, so I can't help this. There's some problem with the web interface, as I've been in offline mode all day - not a choice I made, and the people that claim to want to help keep asking for info I don't have.

http://autode.sk/2e2j7WA

http://autode.sk/2e8xSWT

You could have selected the body in the browser and just selected Remove, in the model workspace you can't just select faces and delete unless the body can heal back into a solid. If you know you want to completely remove part of a body you might find it easier to use an Extrude Cut.

Extrude cut screencast.

Thanks very much for the help. It seems one is better off thinking in terms of making tools out of bodies rather than curves.

The distinctions between using the time line, browser, model space, prefs dialogue and sundry other prefs inputs are anything but obvious to me. Ther must be some overriding logic to where various controls are placed. THAT would be an useful bit of instruction along with the design intent instructional vids. I'm still wondering why there's suddenly no option in the drop down menu to get into the sculpt mode.

I restarted and finally got online. I've spent most of today in the offline mode. I'm beginning to think there's something amiss with the application.

In the first video, you are looking for Sculpt in the workspace switcher. However you are in parametric space and Sculpt is a Modeling Feature. Look on the create menu for the purple beach ball, you can see it in the video.

In the second video, you are getting confused by body/face/component priority. When you select 3/4 of the faces on that body and pick Delete, Fusion is trying to heal the body and cannot, so it fails. You can see that Select is picking faces one at a time, but not the back one.

After that, you move the body and window select it. This selects all the faces and Delete tries to do it's job. However, there are features you have made that depend on that body, so parametric failures happen because downstream features no longer have that body as a reference, or that body was part of a reference for those features until you sliced and removed it.

If you want to delete a body: Find it in the browser and right click on it, or set your selection filter to pick only bodies and select it on screen.

Difference between delete and remove:

Delete completely takes the object out of history. Most stuff related to it will be taken out also.

Remove adds a parametric node for the event of removal. Prior to that in the timeline the object exists, and after that the object is removed. This would be better done at the end of the timeline, or at least after any features that depend on it.

Please let us know if you have more questions.

Regards,

Phil
