When I have a series of components brought into an assembly, it always shows: "Part ABCD v2", etc.

I don't mind the 'v2' necessarily, except that it wanders into my parts list in drawings and is a bit much.

Anyway to get Fusion to drop it from the part name?

For what I do, I'm not running through a lot of revisions - nor do I need to track them.

While my parts list still isn't cooperating and carrying the description over, there has to be a way to clear this....

thanks,

scott

Could you try renaming the design in the Dashboard?

Does not work. I still get "stuck" with a version number no matter what I do.

- But more importantly - it messes up my parts lists. I have not been able to control my parts lists and they don't copy over the info I place into the properties dialog in the base component. I've put this in another message posting, and I think it's been run up the chain.

Unfortunately, there is no override so I can change the parts list, and items aren't updating.

I think it may be an Sierra issue, so I need to try to update it in a different OS - but in the meantime; it's something to put on your list.

thanks...

Hello!

@innovatenate I'm not sure that would work for this instance. I think he needs to edit the component name in the file tree. He's an example:

The original file does not keep the version number (that's what the blue box and arrow show), however any parts inside might keep their version number (this happens when you drag in linked components.)

If rename the body though, it'll be updated on the drawing

Hopefully that helps! 🙂

Hi scotty71,

The version number can be removed by editing the properties of the inserted component. Let me try to clarify the workings a little bit:

The Parts List's Part Number, Description and Material columns obtain their values from the design. In the design, the Part Number's default value is the same as the part's name. But this can be overridden by selecting Properties from the component's right click menu:

The component's description can also be edited in the same dialog:

The same steps can be applied on the root level node which usually takes the Part Name (and hence the Part Number) from the file name. In the case of an Xref component, that has to be done in the linked file (A in my example):

This results in:

Although this means you may have to manually remove the version number from all linked parts, I think this would achieve what you want. Hope this helps. Please feel free to reach out if you have other questions or comments.

Thanks,

Hi all,

I still can't seem to get this to work. The only way to truly override this is to unlink the component inserted into the assembly. Which really defeats the purpose

Here is the base component, where I can edit all the specifics.

Then, when I insert the component into an assembly - this is what I see. Notice it erases my description and adds the "v5"

Here's what I get when I try to drum up a parts list and drawing from the ASSEMBLY, notice I lose all the details, and the V5 is added.

This is what I get when I try to put a drawing and parts list from the base component.

So, I have no idea where to go. I tried to create completely new project and assembly with new parts and it generates the same results. I know I can't edit the component properties in the assembly, but each time I open the base component, it of course automatically updates the version number - which is becoming laughable. It is Fusion that is inserting the version number, not me, and the fact that erases my description makes it further confusing. I hope that info provides more insight, and FWIW, I have tried repeatedly to follow the suggestions set for me here, but nothing seems to work. Unless I am truly missing something, which is entirely reasonable. My wife says so all the time.

-scott

If that doesn't, can you please attach the files and I'll make a screencast of it for you.

Hi scotty71,

From your screenshots, it appears that you are editing the component "Perimeter End Beam" inside the "Perimeter Frame - End" file. With parts lists, one of the current limitations is that it will only display information about the first level of components in the view selected. So, in your case, the properties of "Perimeter Frame - End" would have to be modified rather than the properties of the components under it.

I've tried to capture this as a Screencast:

If we want to create a parts list for components that are nested inside the first level of components (in my example above, Box1 and Box2 are inside Box_Subassembly), at this point, the only way to achieve this is by placing a view of the parent component (in my example, again, this is Box_Subassembly). I've done this in the video as well. Hope that helps.

Thanks,

Krithika

Thank you. My head exploded with just a 3-second section of that video. All of it makes much more sense now.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for that screencast.
