I also seem to have a problem (refer this this older thread) with the flat pattern generating a flat pattern from the wrong face, interestingly enough this only started happening after I switched from a Windows 8.1 to Windows 11 machine? Please see the attached file, does anyone have a workaround for this?P.S. why does your software not run on Win 8.1 anymore I never had issues but since moving to Win 11 the issues seem endless, everything seems to take longer with more workarounds than is necessary.

What should be bent back on a flat disk?
What should be the end result?

Are both the files you attached the same? Flat pattern has never worked reliably for parts with no bends. Someone from Autodesk did accept it is a valid workflow and should work but I guess not a high priority.

I seem to remember flat pattern will only work on one of the main planes if you don't have any bends.

Just checked and if the flange is on the XY plane it seems to work.

I need to be able to extract a dxf pattern for my plasma cutter. I might be going about this wrong, as I have always created a sketch and then created a flange from the sketch which would adopt the sheet metal rule eg. 2mm mild steel, (this makes it easy to test fit a component in an assembly) from this, I would create a flat pattern and extract to DXF and cut. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, both files are the same (sorry my mistake, must have been interrupted while posting). Is there any other way of extracting a dxf from a part other than my current workflow, What I do now is I would create a sketch and flange it as the sheet metal rules will be applied, making it easy to test fit a component in an assembly, I would then extract a flat pattern from the component from which I will then export to dxf for cutting. Am I going about this all wrong? any suggestions on what I need to change in my workflow, as the end result needs to be a component that can be test fit in an assembly and then cut on my plasma table.

What you need to do is make sure the simple flat part with no bends in create on the XY plane.

One way to do this is after creating to component for the flat part, use a joint to move the component so its XY plane is orientated correctly.

For example after creating a component for a flat cover I used a joint between the origin of the new component and the hole in the box I want to cover.

Now create the cover in place.

And the flat pattern works. See attached file.
