Hi,

I'd like to import multiple (independent) assembly designs that have been created with Solidworks. Some of the assemblies have more than 100 parts (including subassemblies) so I'd quite like to be able to import them as a large lump rather than finding the referenced parts for each assembly individually. I've been able to upload all the .SLDPRT files, but when I try to import an assembly, Fusion asks me for the reference parts and subassemblies.

Is there a way to upload all the assemblies and then resolve conflicts/file locations using the previously loaded parts?

I can import individual assemblies without any trouble. Right now, I'm trying to import perhaps 500 files, which include about 100 assemblies (some of which are sub-assemblies that are then used in assemblies themselves). Because there are so many and some of the assemblies are quite complex, I don't want to have to spend a couple of days working out which part files are referred to by which assemblies and then grouping those together to allow me to import.

Since assembly files (as I understand them) are effectively a list of the parts contained within an assembly along with the relative positions of everything, I was hoping that I could import all the assembly files at the same time as all of the parts and have everything show up in a sensible manner in Fusion. Is there a way to achieve this?

How many components are in the assembly?

You should be able to use the Pack and Go command to move all of the required/referenced files into a single directory, including the assembly, sub-assemblies, and part files.

Once you have this done, you can upload an assembly via the Dashboard.

Next, specify the top level assembly file.

Once the assembly is uploaded, it will appear in the data panel in Fusion 360.

At this point, you can right click on the design and select Create Fusion Design to convert it to a native Fusion Design.

I note it is also possible to upload the assembly directly through the upload command directly in the data panel. You'll need to watch the text in the upload command to make sure the assembly name is correct at the top.

I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Hi Nathan,

Thanks for the information. The issue that I'm struggling with is that there are a bunch of assemblies, and I wasn't expecting to ever use them outside Solidworks. This means that I would have to "pack and go" for each one before I upload it. I was kind of hoping to just be able to upload all the .SLDASM files and all the .SLDPRT files into one project and then let Fusion 360 find the relevant parts when I open a particular assembly. Looks like I have a bunch of work ahead of me 😞

Tim
