Autodesk CAD Benchmarks

I need to gather some data to create a ROI on a more robust workstation. I'm aware of some of the generic ones, such as what is listed here:

I'm wondering if Autodesk has and/or could recommend some benchmark tests that would most closely relate to Fusion 360 performance (both CPU and GPU). I'd like to see if I can have the vendor run a benchmark on the machine I'm looking at, so I can compare it to my current one. I'd like to narrow things down, so I don't have to ask for a bunch of different benchmarks. Any recommendations?

Unless there is other information, it looks like this may be the best bet:

SPECviewperf® 12

SPECviewperf 12 is the worldwide standard for measuring graphics performance based on professional applications. The latest version is SPECviewperf 12.0.2, which extends performance measurement from physical to virtualized workstations. SPECgpc members at the time of V12.0.2 release include AMD, Dell, Fujitsu, HP, Intel, Lenovo, Micron and NVIDIA.

SPECviewperf 12 measures the 3D graphics performance of systems running under the OpenGL and Direct X application programming interfaces. The benchmark’s workloads, called viewsets, represent graphics content and behavior from actual applications.

@mcramblet - I don't believe that I've ever seen any public benchmarks, but have reached out to a few others on the team to see if they have any.

@brianrepp, that would be great, thanks. The SPECviewperf was just for video performance, so I'll also try the SPECwpc benchmark. If something else turnes up that would be a better benchmark option, all the better.

Hi,

Are you looking for the types of operations in Fusion to execute as part of this? e.g. loading large files, computing complicated timelines, large xref files, etc.

Yes, if something like that already existed, that would be great. I'm not sure that I'd be able to convince the vendor to run any tests for me, after all. Even if I can't, I'd still be interested in running the benchmarks, myself, after the fact.

Perhaps you could work with the creator behind the benchmarking tool for Inventor called Inventor Bench. The API in Fusion isn't nearly as exposed/capable as in Inventor to enable some of the features, but the methods of testing may be of some use to whoever works on such a tool.

Just a thought, really.

Load files of different sizes and complexity:

DM designs
PM designs

Load files of different types:

Base design
Simple xref design
Large xref

Cold Open (Fusion launched, open design)

Warm open (Fusion already running, open design)

Compute Performance

Small files
Large files
Xref files

Sketch operations

Local Sim Solve

Local Render

Local Create Toolpath

Benchmarks would be great... I'd loved to know how the new AMD CPU compare to the Intel CPU's.

Also that AMD has a lower single core clock but higher IPC

And regarding GPU it would be VERY GOOD to see what a good card. Apparently Quaddros and Firepro are not fully supported but there is no documentation at all. So setting up a new system is complettly a guessing game 😕

still I would like to know more from Autodesk:

what works better cheap gaming card or a professional graphic card (looks like its the gaming card, but I am guessing)
