Slider's configuration

Hi,
I would like to configure 2 states for an assembly, e.g. the slide below. How do I configure an open state and a closed state?

If you have a Fusion Subscription License, you could use Configurations.

Is it a single component that moves to two positions or are it two components that are alternately hidden?

It is two components with a controlling slider joint. The configuration is two states, one at full slide joint limit and the other at the beginning position.

@mac_ito - right click the joint in the timeline, and select configure-

you'll be presented with options for what can be configured for that joint. once you make a selection, it will appear in the configuration table-

@laughingcreek yes thank you, but maybe I'm too tired but I don't understand the reasoning in the case of a slider

In your case you probably have Side Joint Limits on your linear bearing so you would do as @laughingcreek shows but select the Minimum and Maximum values to include in the Configuration table. Then create a second configuration with the reverse values. This is shown in the screen capture.

I managed to get what I wanted with the different values in the maximum box, That being said, I don’t know if this is how we should proceed.

to modify only the "maximum" value seems more intuitive to me and can avoid confusion.

so when I replied before i was just thinking of rigid joints. didn't really grok the question. sorry.

you could do this by configuring the "rest" position. it's not a particularly satisfying way because for some reason when you change configurations you have to drag a component a bit to get it to take effect. and revert position puts everything back to zero till you slightly drag something again. weird.

you can also drive all the joints you want to configure a bit, and do a "capture position" . when you configure the capture position there will be selections to configure each of the joint values that where changed by dragging them-

which may be a more intuitive way to set things.

no problem @laughingcreek , it was intentional not to say too much so as not to restrict and overly narrow the answers. the solutions proposed are interesting but the "rest" features do not correspond to my needs and I do not have a good feeling with "capture position"

After several tests I am still surprised that we cannot just control the side of the slider, as is done simply in other CAD software.
Being forced to play with the minimum maximum values is not the most intuitive thing. And playing with the maximum value does not work compared to what I said previously.
The "rest" feature seems the easiest to put in place but it does not seem compatible with the motions link, @laughingcreek right?

I don't think the min and max values should be in the configuration. I would think those values should stay static.

I did notice that when you go to configure a position capture, the "translate along axis" option doesn't appear unless you actually drive the joint first. it's not good enough to just drag it with the mouse. but once you've done that, it seems like the most straight forward way to configure the position of a slider. according to AD, this is a primary purpose for position capture, and is one of those cases where it is considered the correct use for it.-

The best if there is a configuration that uses motion link is to activate it only for the configuration concerned otherwise it can cause problems with other joints.
