Mirrored component disappears

So I imported this hand in .STL-format. Fusion recognises it as a component with a meshbody inside of it.

The problem is that I cannot mirror it. After mirroring (it previews the mirror perfectly) it disappears.

Any clue to why this is the case? I've also tried to convert the file to something else (i.e export it as step etc. But it fails to export).

Can you attach the original *.stl file here?

Opened it in Onshape, it mirrors it with no issues..

They worked. But I want the full detailed hands. How did you convert them to .f3d?

Can you explain a bit about your Design Intent?

Stl files are coarsely faceted planar surfaces - generally of little use other than for 3D printing.

Depending on your Design Intent - there might be a better option than using stl (other than for reference).

A guy asked me to visualize a steering wheel with two gripping hands. Since I'm not used to produce 'organic' stuff I borrowed the hand from the internet.

He wants to 3d-print this guy at Ø150 mm Ø (≈ 6 in)

What 3D printer do you have?

I think I would concentrate on the wheel and not worry too much about the resolution of the hands.

By the time you scale it down to your intended print size - I don't think you will be able to tell much difference.

You could always do a bit of post-processing on the print (I like using drywall compound to smooth out).

I could try a bit less on the simplification (I used MeshMixer), but I am not convinced it is worth the effort.

At full resolution it was taking longer than I was willing to wait (I used Inventor) with no guarantee that it would convert to a solid.

(at the resolution I posted it only took a few seconds to convert)

I have the same issue. I want to simulate a Thingiverse robot, which means I need to reassemble it virtually from the STL files. I tried to do this in Fusion360. The MeshBody for the STL files vanishes when I create a mirror of said mesh. I assume it's something like backface culling.

Here is the model with the mirrored component sub-assemblies. The native fusion parts had no problem. The meshbodies vanished.
