Hi cad.supportEC55Z,

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you. This forum thread is actually discussing two different issues:

1. The problem in your original post, that on re-open of your Fusion Drawing in TrueView, one view is shifted on the sheet

2. A problem with Output DWG files not showing the view geometry when opened in non-Autodesk products.

This is in reply to item 1, your initial dimension/view positioning issue. This is a bug and we've tracked it down to some work that was done in the last update to support Rotated views (although you don't need to rotate a view to encounter this).

The problem affects Detail Views. If you look at your png, DWG_TrueView_01.png, you'll see the Detail view B has shifted down on the sheet - it is now aligned with the center of the detail view boundary on the base view. In the short term, to get your drawings out, the workaround is going to be to re-arrange the views on your sheet (in Fusion) and make sure your detail view is aligned with the center of the view boundary. This may require upping the sheet size so everything fits neatly.

Here's a screen capture (using a simple drawing) of what you need to do:

Select the Detail View > Using the center grip, move the cursor over the detail view boundary on the base view > hover over one of the quadrants (3:00 or 9:00 o'clock) or the center, then drag the view out exactly horizontally and place it. Now when you output the DWG and reopen in TrueView, all will be well.

I understand this is not an ideal workaround, but arranging the views this way will allow you to get them out.

Alternately, if you have access to AutoCAD, you can open the output DWG in AutoCAD > Select the Detail view > Select the grip and hit the Shift key to break alignment, then click to place the view. At this point if you save, the drawing will be "fixed."

Apologies again for this inconvenience, we are actively working on fixing this bug as soon as possible.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi,

I have a problem exporting a dwg file from my Fusion 2D drawings.

After the exporting, if I open the DWG file with AutoDesk DWG TrueView 2017, I can see that most of the references are lost.

Some measures are wrong, (they are different from what I have in the original drawing) and the components of the assembly are not in the correct position.

I also tried to export the entire model to dwg (clicking on "see details on web" and then "export to dwg"), but still the components are not positioned correctly.

I exported the drawings in pdf format, but I need also the dwg files, is there a way to solve this issue?

Thanks

Hi, My Dear User

Could you provide us more information about your problem. Could you show us some pictures or kindly provide your model and drawings for us if possible? What is the meaning of the word "Reference"? Is that External Reference components, or drawing views? Are you meant to the views shown as red box etc?

You can provide us the f3z file just use the same method you mentioned.(clicking on "see details on web" and then "Fusion 360 Archive").

Hi,

with references I mean that if I take the center of a hole in Fusion, then in the dwg file the position of the hole is lost, and so the center mark. Then obviously all the measures coming from the center mark of the hole are wrong.

I append a couple of image to show the problem.

The image Fusion_Drawing shows the drawing in Fusion. I exported that drawing as .dwg file and when I open it in Autodesk DWG TrueView I see as the image "DWG_TrueView_01".

Regards

Hi KB,
Sorry to hear you are having this problem. We had another user report this and have a bug logged in our system. The problem is with detail views, in your case the view is moving down to be aligned with the view it was created from, like a projected view.

Would you be able to export this drawing (use fusion 360 archive option from A360) and send it to me? christopher.miller@autodesk.com

Is this the only case of this or is it in multiple drawings? Is this a recently created drawing or an older one? If older about when was it initially created/last edited & saved?

Thanks,
Chris

I have a similar problem. I the drawing environment all fine, but when I save to dwg most of the drawing is not displayed.
I want to confirm with you the "View not display" means nothing at all, just like your picture shows, or another possible situation we get reported are all view with red rectangle bounding box around that.

The second question that exported drawing only have sheet page, i think that is as designed. Views are default placed in paper space (sheet layout).

Hi flaviocolnago,

What program are you using to open the output DWG? If it a non-Autodesk product like Draftsight, the geometry won't appear because the drawing view objects are not supported by that program. We've had a few other forum threads about this in the past, like http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/design-validate-document/2d-drawing-export-problem/m-p/6563157#M73232 which has links to a couple others.

What are you trying to do with your exported DWG? Is there missing functionality in Fusion Drawings that you need, or are you sharing with others for possible use for CNC or ?

With dwg model could be possible to add all those feature not supported by currently poor drawing environment of fusion:

weld details, tables, particular dimentions (f.i. arch lenght), sketches, other details time consuming to model in 3D ...

modify dwg for special production needs without changing 3d model

share the drawing with partners without compatibility issues (every day I receive dwg from customers and send to suppliers)

insert the geometry into other 2d drawings (old assemblies or plate nesting )

Many of these cannot be done exporting sketch geometry as suggested in other threads.

I actually can't figure out my workflow without dwg.

Fusion is a great tool for conceptual design, but still lacks essential functions for real production world.

For some reason Autodesk are digging their heals in and will not give us a useful export from drawings like DXF so you can exchange 2d drawing with non Autodesk programs. Funny thing is Fusion can't even open a DWG it's created, try uploading and opening the file in Fusion.

I asked about it here and the answer seems very patronising that Autodesk know far more about what you want to do with your DWGs\DXFs than you do.

Thanks,

Chris

About the second issue...I finally subscribed for inventor pro 2017. Lot of money, but keep playing with fusion. I find Fusion more intuitive, flexible and fast. For some task it dramatically reduces time from many minutes to just some clicks.

Great, but...

when it comes to drawings all the good job done becomes useless, because dwg cannot be properly read by most software. I tried to open a fusion dwg also from inventor: nearly good, only section contour were missing (only hatch present). Fine, I thought, now I can export from Inventor to "plain" dwg.... and what I get are only big squares around views (reopening the exported file with inventor or draftsiht). Useless, again. It is like I have a the most performing car of the world ...that can be driven only inside disneyland. Frustrating.

Hi @Anonymous, we really do appreciate your candid feedback, and we understand the DWG export frustration you're experiencing. Out of curiosity, can you give us some more details on why you're exporting your drawing to DWG? Are there features that we're missing in Fusion Drawings that you're trying to compensate for elsewhere, or is it a bigger part of your workflow?

Thanks in advance,

Just read some posts before... however:

I'm a manufatcurer of machine equipment and very often I send dwg to
sub-suppliers.

At the moment the main issue is that I need to extract the contour of a
part wich has to be laser or plasma cutted, make some modifications to it
(remove or add material or features usefull for production purpose that
have not been 3d modelled), and insert this drawing in a larger one, coming
from other projects (for example for cut nesting). Moreover, all the parts
that present bends or round curve, since fusion by now has not a
sheet-metal environment, need to be "manually" unfolded, so I need a
complete 2d drawing environment. The same can be said for welded parts: I
model the part at its final stage, but I need to add somewhere material
that will be removed with machining before or after welding.

For machining needs I and my sub-suppliers have also to take measures from
the drawing that need some construction lines and geometry modifications. A
simple example: how do I measure the arc lenght of the midline of a
cilindrical shell from the edge to a pipe? This has to be possible without
taking care of what kind of software I or the supplier has. Very often my
suppliers don't have the latest release of autocad (or draftsight, or
whatever reads .dwg...) and I need to send them dwg saved to older formats.

Looking around I found a workaround, since It is possible to export a schetch in DXF format. I have to project the part into a new schetch and then export the schetch as DXF. This resolves my main issue and let me work. I'll let you know if this is enought for my needs.

Hi Geraldo,

Currently the exported DWG from Fusion is in paper space. If you have access to (Windows) AutoCAD you can open the output DWG and use EXPORTLAYOUT to get these objects into model space. I'm assuming your goal is to get this geometry out of Fusion for downstream use (like CNC). If you have a specific shape you want to export from the design, exporting the sketch to DXF from the model browser is currently the cleanest way to do this.

Thanks,
Chris
