topic Problem with User Parameter in Fusion Design, Validate & Document Forum

Hello,

I'm trying to create a new user parameter but can't seem to get Fusion360 to accept my eexpression as valid. I have these existing user parameters:

Width = 14
gapNumber = 10
gapWidth = .75

and I'm trying to use them in this equation:

(Width - (gapNumber * gapWidth))/(gapNumber-1)

but the Expression field displays red and I get the hover message "Please enter a valid expression."

I've also tried writing it as:

(Width - gapNumber * gapWidth) / (gapNumber-1)

and a whole host of other iterations to no avail (most of which don't work mathematically). The only one that Fusion will accept is:

Width - gapNumber * gapWidth / gapNumber-1

which is not the answer I'm looking for without the parenthesis.

What gives? I am literally using this identical expression (Width - (gapNumber * gapWidth))/(gapNumber-1) in another file and it works just fine. Fusion has been really buggy for me since the most recent update so maybe it's that? The file where this expression does work was created several updates ago. Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Kevin

First thing I would take a close look at how you are handling units.

Thanks for the quick reply! Good suggestion. I will double check what my units are set to. I think they're all in inches so that might be it

Thanks,

Kevin

Haha! And to think I deliberately checked to make sure I wasn't overlooking something simple before I posted. Thank you for the sanity check. I needed to set gapNumber to "no units" and then it worked. I think it's time to step away from the screen for the evening:) Thanks JDMather!

I know the math professors are instructing the students to cancel out their units (not to just ignore them), but then they come into my CAD class and what do they do..... ?

Kudo to you for figuring it out on briefest of tips.
