Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for posting! The reason you do not have the option to mirror a construction is because the construction geometry is usually used to create sketches or features that can then be mirrored. Because of this, there is rarely a reason to mirror the construction geometry itself (as the plane is a means to an end (sketch, face of solid body)) instead of mirroring the feature or sketch.

If you'd like the ability to mirror construction geometry, I would recommend posting the idea on the Fusion 360 Ideastation, where product users can submit and vote on future product features and enhancements!

A simple workaround would be to create a box on the plane to be mirrored. Mirror the box. Create an offset plane on the mirrored box. Delete the unneeded boxes when done.

This was purely a why question, I just found it very strange that we can move, align, delete and copy a construction feature but we cannot mirror it.

@Anonymous,

It's a valid question. The answer is simply one of priority. There is no technical reason why Fusion couldn't support mirroring of work geometries, it's just never risen to the top of the priority list. There are other limitations to mirror: You can't mirror an entire sketch, for instance (you can mirror sketch elements within a sketch, but not the whole sketch). When patterning components, work geometry will come along, but not sketches. All of this is in the backlog, and we will eventually get to it, but we tackled the high priority items first...

A reason to mirror a plane is when it is used to split a body in a symmetrical -- and thus mirrored -- fashion. Think of it as a carving tool.

Can sketches be mirrored?

Or, can sketch geometry be mirrored along an axis that is not in plane with that sketch?

Therein is the rub though. Why is it when you copy and paste a component it is completely associative, yet when you mirror it you lose that associativity except when editing dimension constraints ONLY...

Why does it not follow the same rules? I find that a bit odd actually, choose one and stick with it, no? Preferably the copy/method 🙂

Symmetry planes on the other hand would be awesome, as would symmetry axes in the sketch environment. Works great int he sculpt environment, why not in the model environment?.....
