I know there are loads of posts about this, but I'm really struggling so I must be missing a basic concept.

For this particular use case I'm designing my part in Inventor and using Fusion to do the CAM. In Fusion I can see my part, and I have created a part/solid that represents the CNC stock (its a non-standard shape).

I need to constrain my part inside the stock, but I'm really struggling with the concept of joints. In this case there are no mechanical joints, just alignments and offsets. Really easy in Inventor, you just constrain a few faces and put in some offsets. I can easily get my part centred in the stock with the exact Z offset I need.

How do you tackle this kind of thing in Fusion with joints?

Hi Günther,

I've created a simple example that I think represents what I'm trying to do. 'Test Piece' is the model, 'Test Piece Stock' is the CNC stock to be machined.

I would like to get the model centred inside the stock (in x & y), and offset from the top surface by say 2mm.

Thanks,

Sam

Hi Günther,

Thanks for taking the time to do this, unfortunately I simplified the example too much.

In my real part, the rim of the part isn't continuous, its actually multiple surfaces, and its not a circular revolution - its more of an oval/spline. All this to say that there isn't a simple plane and point to select for the joint. But you have given me some clues and I guess I need to construct a sketch/surface with a point in the centre. I'll give this a go.

Thanks,

Sam
