Hi,

Something's happened to my F360. I've not used it for a month or so, but now when I try to access "change parameters" on any existing model F360 crashes a few moments after I close the parameter dialog - I don't even need to change anything, just close the dialog. It seems to behave as expected on new models. Did I miss an upgrade that affected the model files?

Here's what I've done so far:

1) I have upgraded my graphics drivers

here's the graphics diagnostic information:

[GPU Information]
GPU Device: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070
GPU RAM: 8192 MB
GPU Driver API: DirectX 11.0
GPU Driver Version: 1.4.542
GPU Driver Date: Unknown

[Graphics Effects Settings]
Anti Aliasing: On
Ambient Occlusion: On
Object Shadow: Off
Ground Shadow: On
Ground Reflection: Off
Selection Display Style: Normal
Transparency Effect: Better Performance

[Limit effects to optimize performance] Off

2) uninstalled and reinstalled F360

3) gone through about 20 model versions and files to confirm the crash - it seems to be consistent. Once it crashes, F360 also crashes with new models, but after a reboot it's normal again. Feels like there's a temporary file that doesn't get deleted and is used the next time F360 is started up.

I'm running:

Windows 10 with 32G RAM,

SSD primary drive,

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz, 4001 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s),

I have a 3DConnexion space navigator (which incidentally doesn't get recognised on start - I need to unplug and re-plug to get F360 to recognise it - I know its a different issue, but I'm throwing it in to give as much relevant info as I can),

plus logitech mouse and keyboard.

I've just installed BitDefender, but the problem doesn't go away if I disable it.

I've attached the diagnostics log.

Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.

Peter

Hi,

Thanks for the report. It looks like you are crashing in the user interface, i.e. the dialog itself.

(internal reference FUS-29740)

Are you using any special custom parameters? Or can this happen in a new and empty model file? We may need more information to fully investigate this. The golden rule for crashing (or really any bug) is if we can repeat it, we can fix it. Some bugs are very specific to the model data, or the exact steps the customer takes, or hardware.

Regarding 3Dconnexion: There is a known problem where spacemouse drivers are confused by opening a file from the data panel. Is this what you are seeing? To check, after a model is open, click into the modeling interface window, such as on a toolbar or the browser, or workspace switching dropdown menu. Does spacemouse operation return to normal?

I ask because I test spacemouse extensively and have not yet seen it fail to recognize Fusion when you start Fusion. The only problem I know of like that is as described above. So if it's different, I want to know more about it please. One thing you can check is the 3Dconnexion drivers, which are found here:

http://www.3dconnexion.com/service/drivers.html

Hi Phil,

I'm not using any special custom parameters. The most I'm using is the usual BODMAS - without the O

Unfortunately I wasn't too sure if anyone was going to get back to me, and just before you responded I submitted the problem to support - case number: 12523836, so I apologise if I jumped the gun.

Since posting I installed another copy of F360 on my slower Windows 10 laptop, and was successfully able to change parameters. The issue is obviously in my main PC, but I have no idea where.

A new and empty file doesn't cause F360 crash, as long as no parameters have been changed.

According to BitDefender my system is clean, so I don't suspect malware, but it doesn't discount a possibility that some file has inadvertently crept in that's affected my Windows.

I can repeat the issue every single time, but if it doesn't appear on my laptop, it's unlikely you'll be able to replicate it. I'll happily share the model I'm working on, if you give me your parameters. But I suspect we may have to work from 1st principles.

Regards

Peter

Hi Phil,

Further to my last report on the 3D mouse- When I first open F360 after a system reboot, the 3D navigator console shows f360 as the window with focus, but f360 does not respond to 3D moves at all. Once the 3D mouse is disconnected and reconnected everything works from then on. It seems to be consistent and repeatable, at least on my machine.

Hope that helps

Peter

Peter,

Thanks for the additional information. This might be a hard one to nail down.

Some things to consider:

1. When you re-installed, did you do a complete manual cleanup, as per the readme instructions?

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/design-validate-document/fusion-360-readme/td-p/4311780

2. Did you check on the 3D connexion drivers, do you have the latest? Do you have the drivers on the other machine?

3. Do you have BitDefender on the other machine?

4. Any other key differences you might note.

Thanks for the report. I must admit at this point the crash is not going into a big bucket, it's you and one other customer so far. Anything you can do to narrow it down will help. If you think it's actually the data after all, please just respond here - I will see it.

Thanks,

Hi Phil,

I've solved it! After a lot of reinstalling and then by process of elimination, it's a password manager called "sticky password" that's interfering and causing F360 to crash!! If I kill sticky password in the task manager, the problem goes away.

I'd forgotten that I put it in about a week ago, and I was focussed on F360 because I hadn't used it for several weeks and, with the model I'm using, it's been sluggish and prone to corruption.

Thanks for your time - it did help a lot

regards

Peter

That is fantastic news. I'm really glad you found it.

The bug report has this new information now, so we should be able to reproduce it and fix it. There is also a note to update this forum post so you know when it's fixed. We will look closely to see if the same vulnerability is present in any other part of Fusion.

If you feel this is solved, go ahead and mark it as such so other users can benefit from this tale.

The solution to this is to add the fusion app to the "ignored apps" in sticky Password settings.

In sticky password app, open menu and look for 'ignored apps'.

Then click the '+' and find the fusionLauncher app - for windows it's usually in %appData%\..\Local\Autodesk\webdeploy\production\6a0c9611291d45bb9226980209917c3d (but you may have to hunt in the production\ folders.

Regards

Peter
