I had a quick look at your design and it a bit difficult to figure out what's going on with the combine you show above. One observation looking at your design is you're not following Rule #1, using create component from bodies is not a good idea if you're making assemblies. Unfortunately the tutorials don't teach Rule #1 early enough and we see quite a few beginner first off assemblies that fall apart and need to start again.

Hi all,

I've just designed a workbench and now it comes to prepping for CAM. I've designed simple slotted wood joints between the front and side pieces and tried to combine and cut the components - works fine for the original side piece and the front, but fails in one place for the second, mirrored side piece, where the cutting operation leaves a face, but does not cut. Strangely, on the mirrored front piece it works - looks like a bug to me. I've attached screen shots of the situation here - hope somebody has an idea what I'm doing wrong...

Thanks,

Phil

PS: Just in case my image captions don't show up - Screen 1: Correct cut; Screen 2: Artifact on the left side; Screen 3: Same artifact viewed from back; Screen 4: Side piece used as cutting tool

It is tough to offer a solution from screenshots. can you attache your model or a representative portion of it? You should be able to get a better solution.

When I use "edit feature" to change the combine operation, it looks like this - is that normal? The mirrored copy of the side piece is displayed upside down as soon as it is selected?

Hi @Anonymous,

I don't think that the effects you see, by themselves, are a reason to start over again. I, also, have not had time to look closely at your design, but at first glance, these seem to be graphics glitches, and not problems with the actual geometry. Let me verify.

Of course, @HughesTooling's advice should also be taken - he knows what he is doing. My comments are only related to the artifacts that you see in the design.

I did verify that this is a graphics issue, and there is a fix submitted at the geometry kernel level for it. It may take a while to percolate through the system, but good to know it is fixed
