Contacts

We have the contact generator set up to create bonded contacts automatically, on cloud or local solve, for surfaces that are within tolerance and do not already have a contact created between them. We know this workflow is not ideal for some. The idea was to keep the workflow simple.

I have two suggestions.

Run Automatic Contacts prior to solving and then edit them with the Contact Manager. You can change the type or suppress them.

Submit your idea and let's see what the community thinks about this workflow now.

Failed Simulations

If your simulation fails, look in the Job Status dialog and click on Details. This is currently giving you cryptic codes and some details about why it failed. We are working on improving this to give more meaning to you on why the simulations have failed. You can also RMB on Results in the Browser and select Solver Data to see this info.

I am concerned that your model is failing just because of the curved mesh option. It would be good for me to see your model to review the setup. If you can post it that would be great and I will take a look. If you need to keep it private, please email it to me at andrew.sears@autodesk.com.

A few animation problems/questions:

1. Very frequently, my static analysis will add bonded contacts randomly - without me selecting "auto contacts".

I have been running models with 5-15 piece parts contacted together for the past few months. Before each analysis run, I have to double check all of my contacts because at random times it will bond surfaces together. Most often, I already have contacts on these surfaces. Why are bonds randomly being added to my models?

2. Occasionally, I have the problem of my analysis failing to solve. It will complete all the steps, but doesn't solve. Is there any place that will tell me why the solve failed? When the solve fails, I often change 1 item and it will successfully solve. For example: My model failed to solve with "create curved mesh elements" turned on. I turned this off and it then solved with no problem. WHY?

Correction - These problems are in Simulation (not animation).

@Anonymous, thanks for talking with me and sending the models. We can stop adding information to this post to keep your company models confidential and continue with the private dialog.
