Hi Enrico,

Thank you for posting your question, and welcome to the forums! A 120 MB STEP file is a good size file that typically will require a decent amount of RAM to open, I did the same thing as you with a 90 MB STEP file opened in offline mode, and it consumed 9-10 GB of my RAM. That being said every STEP file is different so results may vary in opening it.

In regards to converting the file to a fusion design, a file this size is going to be hit or miss right now, just based on the complexity. If you are willing to share the file will me I can investigate further on our end, to see if there is something we can make improvements to, so that down the line it is easier to convert this way.

While I know this doesn't provide a solution to access the file in question, if I may ask, what is your intent with the 120 MB STEP file within fusion once you convert it? Even if the file was able to come into Fusion, a file that size might have trouble being useful without performance issues. Again most of this depends on the complexity of the file.

Cheers,

Hello,

I am having troubles in importing a 120 MB STEP file into Fusion.

I did upload the file initially with the web interface and I was able to correctly view it with the integrated viewer, but when I did try to convert it into a Fusion design, then the upload bar did stop in the middle or did arrive to the end and concluded with a "Failed" message.

Then I did try in anther way: I did set to work offline and opened the file directly from the CAD, but I was unable to load it as I went out of RAM very quickly (I do have 4Gb RAM).

Is there any way to overcome this issue and upload and convert the STEP file?

Thank you

Enrico

Dear Joel,

thanks for the feedback.

I understand your point, indeed the intent is to open up this file and cancel all the useless parts, so to achieve a model that can be handled, but the main issue is to import the big file and only after start to cut.

That is why I was hoping that letting the conversion to be done remotely would have permit me to overcome the obstacle.

Enrico

I appreciate you bringing this up, and the great thing about these forums is being able to help each other out.

Like I mentioned if you are able to share the file with me I can see if I can open the file and convert it leveraging my machine's power while we investigate the issue with translating it online. This may or may not allow you to open it, but its worth a shot in my opinion.

If you feel more comfortable you are welcome to reach out to me with my email below so that it isn't shared on the forums.

Cheers,

Thanks for the support.

I am thinking to make another trial. I see that I can open the STEP file with FreeCAD. I will try to simplify it and cancel useless parts, then export it in STEP through FreeCAD and then try to import the simplified version in Fusion.

If I will not successed I will come back and send you the original model to have a look.

Enrico
