Hi
I'm new here (from The Netherlands) and have a first question.
Just started working with Fusion360ultimate simulation. But I can't find any feature to create shells for thin body's for meshing into plate elements, like can be done within Inventor. Does anybody know how this (thin body's/plates) works within Fusion Simulation? Normal solid elements does not work on thin body's, cause to much elements and nodes, long meshing-times and instability in results.

Hi Freddy. Welcome to Fusion!

Fusion Simulation does not have shell elements yet. For now, you will need to use one of our other simulation products (Nastran InCAD, Simulation Mechanical, etc.)

You can try the Fusion 360 partner application SIMSOLID -- available in the app store. It can handle both thick and thin or large and small parts together in an assembly. It is based on new technology that does not require you to create a mid-surface and shell elements.

The plugin for Fusion 360 is free. It comes with a 30-day free trial of SIMSOLID. After that you can license SIMSOLID by a monthly or annual subscription. Price starts at $200/mo. SIMSOLID is a great complement to the embedded Fusion 360 simulation. It extends the analysis range to more complex parts (thick/thin, big/small features, many faces, etc) or very large assemblies. And, since there is no meshing, it eliminates all the typical FEA jargon stuff such as beams, shells, offsets, 1st order, 2nd order etc. that confuses many people.

Well not from us. Autodesk is the only one that can fund pricing like that. 🙂 We have to keep our lights on. That said, we are open for them to re-license it and sell it directly. I guess you should ask them.

In any case, the ability to analyze thin walled structures directly w/o all the hassle of shells is a feature that people really like about SIMSOLID.
