Thanks,

A couple of unfortunate things.

- The link is not working and getting a "Ooops" error with these details: Unrecoverable exit code from extractor: -1073741831

- That the model would take up so much memory to view.

- That file conversion cannot be done purely online.

I realize a lot of the issue is related to it not being seen as a assembly and leveraging part reuse, which I am assuming is causes a huge amount of redundant parts. It still seems that 24GB is quite a lot of RAM usage. I did the design mostly in a virtual machine on my macbook pro using solidworks. If I provided the solidworks assembly would that be a cleaner conversion? It would import all the files separately, but might help with the RAM usage. If you think it is worth trying I will try to isolate the parts to that assembly and try importing it.

Is there a reason you cannot just transfer the file to the A360 folder I shared with you?

I have a large 125MB STEP file that after a little trouble now is imported into A360. It failed after several attempts using Fusion directly so used the web to import. After awhile it is now viewable on the web but I want to convert it into a usable design for Fusion. It appears you can only do this from Fusion, which is fine, but because it seems that it requires uploading again to convert it I am now getting more failures.

- First, it seems others have reported similar issues so I do not understand why this is a problem

- Second, why isn't there a way to convert it while on the web.

I might be missing a workflow or some details, and would be happy if somebody could correct me.

Thanks for the time

Thank you for pointing to this.

I would like to convert it here locally on my computer and on A360 and test a couple things.

Could you upload your file to "A360 Drive" and share the original file with me?

My email address is mike.grau@autodesk.com

It should be shared with you now. The file is a proprietary design I made in another CAD package so just be aware it is not for public viewing.

Also for reference here is my setup:

Model Name: MacBook Pro

Processor Name: Intel Core i7

Processor Speed: 2.3 GHz

Number of Processors: 1

Total Number of Cores: 4

Memory: 16 GB

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M (2GB)

Yes, I do treat it as confidential.

Thanks again for sharing your design.

I have been able to import and export it through Inventor and save it in multiple *.iam and *.ipt

Importing these through A360 into Fusion 360 worked fine but Fusion will require 24 Gb RAM to open the file.

It took an hour on my computer to convert the file in Fusion 360.

I have send the "PublicLink" via private message.

Please, keep me updated if the file has been helpful.

Thanks for pointing to that.

I have shared the file again through A360 Drive and invited you to a folder. The *.f3d file has a size of 480 Mb.

Yes, it might be worth to try a direct conversion from SolidWorks.

One issue that exaggerated this is that my files are from vault export which is a flat file system. Without a valid solidworks license anymore I was not able to easily do a "pack and go" to isolate my components just for the assembly.

My work around was to upload it to GrabCAD which then allows me to isolate and export the assembly. Then I was able to upload the solidworks assembly on A360 as a single grouped assembly.... then from Fusion I created a design from the solidworks assembly.

Once I finally converted the assembly, it worked, and worked better than expected. The steps for me where overly complicated and it would be nice to be able to do all the steps in a single place. There was a lot of uploading and downloading. It seems like a lot of this could of been done on A360.

I am still a little surprised how poorly the STEP file worked, but luckily I still had all the Solidworks files.

@Mike.Grau

Thanks for the help
