Thank you for that. I gather from this you'd simply start over in the sculpt area. That's fine, but there's aspects I want to remain sketch-based and I don't quite see how this would be possible if things start out in the sculpt mode.

I want to do an overall down-scaling to a group of objects and then a second scaling in one directions. In both instances the point from which the scaling will take place seem to be out of my control. I would like to establish a point on the end of a body or collection of bodies and scale to it - establish a direction. As you can see in the vid I get anything but.

What is the technique to use here?

The scale tool uses xyz axis. So in order to scale the object in a certain direction, it has to be aligned with the axis. I'm not sure why the scale tool doesn't let you pick your pivot point in the scale tool though. Is there a reason you are using the modeling space instead of the sculpt environment for this?

" modeling space instead of the sculpt environment for this?" Well, it seems the only way into the sculpt space is to convert a body but when I try to get there is a major confusion as should be apparent by the screencast,

I recall seeing a 'convert' option somewhere but I can't find it.

You can move it and out of sculpt mode and combine it with the model work space. That's one of the cool things with Fusion 360. I have no experience with sculpt mode but I've seen people do amazing things with it. Get on YouTube and look up Fusion 360 Sculpting and they have some pretty good tutorials. But, you cannot go into sculpt mode, create a sketch, extrude the sketch, then sculpt the sketch.

" -So in order to scale the object in a certain direction, it has to be aligned with the axis. I'm not sure why the scale tool doesn't let you pick your pivot point in the scale tool though."

The vid included was to make it clear the reason for the question. You obviously noticed that but went on to tell me how the tool is supposed to behave. That's not to much of an answer.

As to the other answer regarding this - "That's fine, but there's aspects I want to remain sketch-based and I don't quite see how this would be possible"

You offer up this gem - "But, you cannot go into sculpt mode, create a sketch, extrude the sketch, then sculpt the sketch."

Again not much of an answer - more a restatement of what was pointed out - and it's barely coherent at that.

From now on, if you have more than one question, please use the search feature.

But if I've just one?

If you do not find the answer, then post the question on the forum.

Yep, that's just how it went.

If your question is answered, mark answered.

Again with pointing out the obvious

I can't give you any good info on that as I've deleted the file and started over. I think it may have something to do with copy and pasting the objects and repositioning them. My intent is to model a typical finger with joints and an anchored knuckle and then use the component (collection) to create three more by pasting new and scaling to size. If you mean dimensions in a sketch then yes but they were arbitrary - just sized by eye to the canvas image. I was under the impression an origin would come along with a paste if the entire contents of the components folder were selected. Perhaps instead they were made subject to the main origin ...... I'm getting dizzy here.

I'm going to take a look at your channel and relax a bit.

I was just going to say you can add a user paramater of scale it's a no number, 1 is what size it is below 1 is smaller above 1 is bigger.

so it would be name scale, units (no units) it's number will be 1.

when you use it its say length x scale

you can have meany scales, so you can do it for each direction then it's not X, Y and Z dependent.
