In Sketch. Blue line (unconstrained) will not auto constrain (turn black)

On sketching a simple rectangle the blue line (unconstrained) will not auto constrain (turn black) after entering dimensions so that I can properly move on to extrude the sketch to a solid.

I thought it was a mouse issue but it is not. So I must be doing something wrong or something is turned off. I’ve restarted, and reset back to the defaults but it is still happening. Over the four hours of fighting this, twice I’ve gotten it to work but I have no idea why it worked and then it just shows up in the next sketch operation on either a plain and/or a surface.

Dimensions alone won't fully constrain a rectangle. You need to also constrain it to the origin or another point, etc.

I loaded 360 on my computer about a 18 months back but gave up on it at that time because of time constraints with work and family. Now I’m retired so I’ve come back to try again. Not a good start – grin. I hate not being able to work this out, normally if I poke at something long enough I’ll get it.

This however seems counterintuitive when confronted with a tiny little detail or error that after hours of fussing I still have no clue as how to fix it.

I’m not sure how to do a screen shot. Any hints? I searched for how but I’m coming up with nothing. I’m not the brightest computer user but certainly not on the completely dumb list ether.

In Lars Christensen’s u-tube video, “Fusion 360 Tutorial for Absolute Beginners— Part 1”, between the 10:40 min and 11:03 min. points on that video, he talks about the need for the sketch to be to be locked down. i.e. the sketch lines color must change from blue to black which indicates they are locked down.

I follow along up to that point but my sketch lines for the rectangle is not locking down, the lines stay blue after hitting the “enter” button.

looks like 2.0.3405 build does not offer this preference for unconstrained blue lines. please advise

This is an old thread, Fusion has been updated, and absorbed that option to be automatic for want of a better description.

Sketch items that can be dragged are still not fully constrained, usually the case if nothing is connected to or dimensioned from the Origin, but could be exceptions.

I am having the same trouble. My sketch is already 'over constrained' according to the message box, fully dimensioned too. It is also dimensioned to the origin but when I tug at a corner it still moves reative to the origin. Some of the lines are black but not all. Don't know what to do.

Here it is. It is fully constrained according to the error box at lower
right of screen but can be moved away from the origin point despite
being dimensioned to that. I can't make it go black whatever I do. But I
did proceed regardless and managed to revolve it about the Y axis into a
piston shape solid. The videos all say sketches should go black when
finished.

I am having this same issue. When trying to project on a face and move a sketched box with the Coincident function, I am unable to do so. I am trying to move my rectangle in the same fashion this gentleman does. My project is to cut a slot twisting along the OD of a sleeve. The rectangle represents the magnetic strip I am laying in, but for the project I will be cutting area from the bottom of the rectangle at 2.9"ID to the outside of the circle. The cut will not be the whole length of the cylinder, but I need to understand how to make the cut before I can get the length correct. I attached a reference video, the file, and a screenshot of what my sketch issue is.
