I am importing DXF files but not all the parts come in as sketches to start modeling. I am getting mostly wire frames that I don't know how to turn into a sketch that I can then extrude. Any help please?

Hi @Anonymous,

i guess that the sketch which you have imported is probably discontinuous. Please edit the sketch, zoom and fix the discontinuity by using Coincident command.

You can share the dxf file here so we can take a better look at it.

There are some tips in this thread on fixing open profiles. Another tip, double clicking a curve will chain select so where it stops is where there's a gap.

I have zoomed in as far as it will go and don't see any gaps. I even tried selecting 2 connecting segments and marking them coincident but double clicking them doesn't cause them to chain. I will look through the tips some more before adding the file to be reviewed.

The line method suggests there are discontinuity issue in multiple places but I am not seeing how to fix them when I can't see the gaps. The DXF file is also below.

You can window select everything in the sketch and right click and select move to sketch plane. If you need the profiles on the planes they're on you're not going to find it very easy to fix. The sketches are not very good quality and seem to be made just from line segments, you might be better off starting another sketch and tracing what's there.

I was afraid you where going to say something like that. I have 17 files to go through and this is one of the more simple ones. I will try import/export from another CAD program to see if that helps, otherwise I just have a bunch of work to do.

What are you going to use the models for, CAM? If you can extrude them in another program and save as STP or IGS you might have more luck.

I was able to make solids in another software. Now I just have to figure out how I am going to get these parts cut on a hobbyist budget with all the internal corners.
