Hi,

Could anyone help me wrap a surface around an angled cylinder please?

I've tried projecting sketches from various angles but just can't seem to get the projections to work correctly. I end up with eclipses rather than a natural curve on the surface.

The imagine should explain what I'm trying to do better than I can.

The sketch is the direction the surface needs to come off at. I know It's not in the correct position, just for guidance.

Thanks in advance!!

Chris

That would be a 180 degree wrap 😉

The very first thing I'd start with is clean, fully defined (constrained and dimensioned) sketches.

Yes, 180 degrees, sorry, was thinking about the surface coming off the cylinder.

As for fully defined sketches, not really necessary for a simple bar. Even if it was fully defined, it still wouldn't solve the wrap. The sketch coming off horizontally is only there to show what I'm trying to achieve, not for making the surface from, so no need to define that.

Cheers

Here is another one which is more accurate and simpler to model with the sheet metal tools.

With "more accurate" I mean, if you unwrap it, the sheet will be a rectangle. That's not the case with the more convoluted method. If you go through the timeline and edit the steps you'll see how it was constructed.

If you still have questions, I'll create a screen cast.

That's brilliant, I'll have a look at it in the morning.

The more accurate, the better, as I need to design around the horizontal surface.

Thank you for helping @Warmingup1953 @jhackney1972 . Unfortunately, when the surfaces are unwrapped, the shape is slightly deformed. Appreciate your time though as if it was only for aesthetics, both of your suggestions would work.

I've used your sheet metal technique @TrippyLighting and it works great!! Very easy to understand and execute. Like you said, it's accurate when unwrapped too, so confident to design around it. Thank you for your time and solution!!
