Hi everyone,

New to F360, I am trying to take the four shapes sitting on top of the box and merge them in such a way that allows me to manipulate the highlighted face on the top of the box with the four shapes on top to move with them .

In the following pictures I have demonstrated how I would intend to manipulate the top face of the box.

If the top face of the box is pulled upwards, the four bodies would move apart from each other like a blooming flower.

If the top face is pulled down, the four bodies would move into each other.

eventually id like to pattern this feature and manipulate the plane the are siting on to create "rolling hills" topography effect.

many thanks!

PS i just attached the archive file to this post after exporting it from F360, is that the best way to share a F360 file on forums?, is there a way I can link you to the file that is on my cloud?

Hi,

I first converted all the surfaces to solids by using the Patch command in Patch environment. Then replaced the bottom with a solid box as the existing set of surfaces for the bottom box had gaps in them and difficult to convert them to solids. Then I split the bottom solid box so that I get four halves. Then I patterned the bodies.

Still not able to get the effect of dragging one of the faces will result in flower like movement for expanding and contracting.

For simple designs exporting it to .f3d is fine. You can also invite others into your project OR send a email link through A360. I will see if there are posts already for sharing that would be of help.

Hopefully my files gives you some ideas. You can move the timeline features at the bottom one by one to see how I constructed it.

Regards

great stuff, thanks very much!

patterning is a great way to achieve the texture.

However I still need to manipulate the flat plate that they exist on.

Another way to think of it is how Would I map this texture to a topographical map?

Is rendering the best option here? I am afraid rendering a texture would not achieve the "opening/closing flower effect I described above.

Cheers

J

Hi,

To get the flower like action I'm unsure if its possible. Also unsure if rendering is the way to go for what you are looking for. If I come up with something I will post.
