It was just a simple copy and paste function and i can paste about 4 times on different sketches, and then the rest they are just inverted.

It just driving me crazy. I have 8 planes to copy and paste, i can do 4 the same way i did for the 5th one to 8th, all of them tends to go inverted.

Can you create a Screencast of what you're doing? It might help troubleshoot.

I think Cut/Copy/Paste is severally broken and inconsistent.

If you simply copy paste within a sketch it pastes into the same place.

If you copy from one sketch to another, it will paste mirrored to origin.

However, if you copy from one sketch BUT CLICK OFF before pasting into a new sketch it will paste into same place.

Now if you copy from one sketch to another it will paste in same place as expected. Go figure.

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for posting! Unfortunately, I have been unable to recreate this issue in a new file even when copying from one sketch to another, as shown in your screencast. I have shown this in the screencast below - please let me know if my workflow differs from your in any way.

This issue could be related to the unique layout you are using in Fusion 360. If you reset to the default layout, as shown in my screencast, do the sketch entities paste in with the correct orientation?

Thank you for bringing this to our attention! Please let me know if my workflow differed from your own. If I am able to reliably recreate this issue I am happy to log an issue with our development team for investigation.

Thanks for taking the time investigating to get to the bottom of this. (btw, we are cross-threaded now but that's ok)

Ok, I've reset my Preferences and Reset to Default Layout as suggested.

As you can see in the SC everything appears to working as expected.

However, if I then change the Default Modeling Orientation to Z up, then that's when the copy/paste flips and the Cancel move doesn't cancel.

I'm very curious if you can recreate now.

(The only thing I haven't figured out is why @zornzack was experiencing above the same behaviour since their orientation appeared to be the default Y up.)

Thanks Skubie, at last somebody understand what's the problem i'm having.

I mean it's not that I can't manage to copy. I have 12 sections and i'm not sure why or somehow only few of the sections are inverted no matter how I copy them.

I've copied them the same way that I did for all the other sketches and I thought it might be some bugs.

I tested selecting the plane from the browser, XY and YZ work correctly but every test using XZ pasted upside down. The second sketch is created from the selected lines.

Thanks for the sleuthing! You are correct, it seems like this issue occurs when the sketch is copied from the XZ plane. This occurred for me regardless of if my default modeling orientation was set as Z-up or Y-up.

I was also able to confirm that the sketch will come in correctly as long as you click off the selected contour before entering the new sketch.

I have logged an issue with our development team (FUS-30855) about this issue and they will be working to address it in a future update of Fusion 360. I will update this thread when I have more information to share about a long term solution.

Thanks again for bringing this to our attention!

I have experienced issues related to sketch orientation also. @paul.clauss, can you look at the first screen cast posted by skubie again. At 4 sec, when he makes the second selection for the line point, you can see the scale for the x axis literally filps direction. at first, the positive direction is to the right of the screen, and when he makes that selection, the positive direction flips to the left of the screen. The new sketch he creates is oriented with the positive x axis going to the right of the screen. Seen in this light, it makes sense that the sketch is flipped when it gets pasted, but it doesn't make sense that the orientation would change in the first place.

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-design-validate/sketch-on-quot-plan-at-angle-quot-changes-orientation/m-p/7230294#M124812

This current thread, mine, and the third one that Skubie refers to above-

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-design-validate/cut-copy-paste-broken-and-inconsistent-on-mac/td-p/6898841

All look to me like they are experiencing the same behavior, but with different triggers. The behavior is that the orientation of a sketch rotates around it's origin for an un-known reason.

Hi Everyone,

@Careless_ - unfortunately this issue (FUS-30855) has not yet been resolved, but it has been assigned and prioritized by our development team. Is the workaround mentioned in my previous post (copied in below) still working for you to avoid this problem?

" ...the sketch will come in correctly as long as you click off the selected contour before entering the new sketch."

@laughingcreek - thanks for the observations! I had a look at the links you provided and noticed that Jeff logged FUS-33980 for the plane at angle bug and Phil addressed the other issue as a workflow misunderstanding - the command was being cancelled. I have made a note with our development team about your observation that this behavior may be related to the sketch being rotated around the origin and the development team will be continuing to research this. We appreciate your input!

I had another look at the screencast and noticed that the numbering does switch direction along the x-axis. I have noticed that the grid quadrant labels change consistently in Fusion [absolute values are shown for the quadrant you are working in - after a sketch entity is brought onto that quadrant (the second point "creates" the line) focus is brought to that area and the labeling moves] - I believe this to be intentional as the view cube is not flipped when the numbers are changed. There could be a chance that this is creating some error resulting in the flipped sketches, and I have included this is my note to development. Thank you for this insight!

I should also mention that, if you feel like you have found a bug, please report it on the Support forum board! We will then be able to more efficiently address the behavior.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

@paul.clauss " ...the sketch will come in correctly as long as you click off the selected contour before entering the new sketch."

I attempted to make sense of this and tried to do this a number of ways just in case I was not understanding anything. I eventually ended up not selecting or un-selecting everything and it still did not work for me.

This is a fundamental part of creating sketches and copying/duplicating sketch information, and as far as this thread goes- I see that it has been an issue since February of this year.

Is it just to call it a "priority" if one of the most basic tasks in application history has not been solved for 5 months, or has it just recently been dubbed a priority? I'm only asking because I'm so close to switching to another CAD program, and if it's been 5 months to fix a copy/paste function, then I can't take this software seriously and will have to look towards other solutions.

I was hoping to use F360 on both macOS and PC, which initially drew me here, but I'm not feelin it right now...

Hi @Careless_

Thanks for the response! The workaround just requires you to remove focus from the copied contour before pasting it so that the selection is no longer highlighted. I have shown this in the screencast below.

All bugs reported on the forums are priorities for our development team! Issues are prioritized based on a number of factors (including if a workflow exists to avoid the behavior) and sometimes it can take some time before an issue is fully researched and addressed. I apologize that this behavior has caused problems for you and hope that the screencast will help you avoid it!

Our development team is working to address this behavior and provide a better solution that will not require the workflow shown below. Please let me know if you have any questions!

This workaround does not work for me.

In my case I have designed a sketch in one file looking at XY plane from the "Top".

If I open a new file and try to paste the sketch into the new file with sketch on the XZ plane from the "Front", it mirrors the entire sketch.

De-selecting after copying makes no difference.

I've just had what seems like this problem, and found this thread when looking for the answer. The clicking-away workaround doesn't work for me.

Is this still a known issue, or do I have a new bug ?

Thanks,

Richard

This literally is still a problem. I just want to duplicate a sketch, without exporting it to a DXF and then reimporting it each time. Or mirroring around the X and then the Y axes is a PITA!

Same issue. All work around methods did not help. Tried to click elsewhere before exiting the sketch, selecting New Sketch before selecting Plane, did not help. Sketches are still inverted after pasting
