how to edit BOM list?

I want to edit BOM part names and materials without change the original part file. and remove description making list short.

Thanks for posting! It look like you would like to edit a BOM created in Fusion 360.

Unfortunately, this cannot currently be done in Fusion 360. There is, however, an update coming out tonight that may help you work around this. I would recommend keeping an eye on the Fusion 360 Product Roadmap.

I apologize that I cannot currently share more details! Sit tight and wait for the update - I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

I spoke with some members of our drawing team and got the go-ahead to share some more details with you. The update tonight will include the option to create custom tables. This solution should work for you in that you will be able to fill out all the table information without any link to the original Fusion designs, so you will be able to add part names and materials without changing the original part file at all.

While it will not be included in this update, we are working to increase the customization options for an actual BOM table. There are no part list specific improvements coming in the update tonight, but the option to override model properties is on the roadmap for future updates. You can keep an eye on this by checking the Drawings Roadmap Mural.

An excel list was quicker to produce than going through modifying all part properties to then have to modify back 😞

I just wanted to chime in and see if this has been resolved yet. It's been over three years since the original post, and there was a promised workaround to be released that same night. Is there now a way to manually edit BOM tables?

resolved yet???? seems it has been 5 years and I can't seem to edit a BOM/TABLE manually. how is this not just simple common sense?

Any updates? I need this all the time. For example Stainless Steel 316L is not a valid call out in my industry, for example it would be "ASTM A182 F316L."

Note I realize that you could create custom materials and apply them to each but this is SUPER inefficient vs just fixing the table.

I just made an attempt to access and edit the BOM for the first time today after designing a small shed in Fusion. Shockingly, the functionality that seemed so obvious was non-existent. I can see the frustration in this thread echoing the same confusion. I'm appalled this functionality wasn't an obvious necessity for the very first release that included assemblies, let alone still unaddressed. And I realize I can click thru the browser and edit properties for each component individually to affect the BOM, but that's so much more tedious and error prone when I want to compare, align, and copy data across components after I've cranked out all of the geometry. I'm enjoying some of the modeling capability and geometry creation workflows versus the Inventor workflows I'm used to, but I sure wish I didn't have to weigh the ease of metadata management in the decision to use Fusion for small one off or personal projects.
