Moving from Inventor to Fusion.

I have a customer that I have done all there work in Inventor. They are thinking going forward most designs will only require small changes, and so they are looking at taking over the designs using Fusion. I am also semi retired so we both feel it could be good for them to take the files over.

About all I have done in Fusion is play with HSM. So I guess I am looking for a tutorial or something on migrating from Inventor to Fusion without making a mess of things. Best way to go from inventor Project to Fusion? (folders?) I tried uploading an Inventor DWG file and it came up empty? Is there a way to import the DWG files into Fusion and have them still linked to the Assemblies, and IPN files? I uploaded a IPN but when I double click on it it opens a web page that never finishes loading.

Any suggestions from people that have converted projects from Inventor to Fusion are more than welcome. 🙂

Thank you for posting!

I think Fusion 360 is similar to Inventor, however on the other hand, it's totally different.

One thing, you should keep this. when you import assembly files to Fusion the all of joint will lose, which means you need to add a joint again in Fusion.

and when you import IPN file, Fusion 360 doesn't recognize it.

This is import list.

AutoCAD DWG Files (*.dwg)
Autodesk Inventor Files (*.ipt, *.iam)

We are not supporting ipn and inventor drawing file. I tried to import Inventor drawing it was uploaded but there's no item on Fusion 360.

If you are able to change from Sheet view to Model view using save as "Layout as a drawing". you can see the view on Fusion 360. (or using Inventor design assistant, you can change all of it to Autocad DWG)

Thank you for the reply Ahreum Ryu,

So from what I understand, Fusion is not a good choice for taking existing Inventor desgns forward, if there are already IPN and DWG or IDW files. That is really unfortunate and will most likely keep my client from choosing 360. Seems funny when one of the common slogans coming from autodesk is "AnyCAD"
