topic Changing multiple parameters in Fusion Design, Validate & Document Forum

Hello,

I have been working on a model which contains many parameters. By now, every time I change a parameter, Fusion has to Compute the change and it takes about half a minute for each change, and obviously, the bigger the file, the longer the time for computing each change.

Do you know if there is a way to change multiple parameters before computing the result the change has on the model? and thus saving time.

Thank you very much,

Sorin

Hi,

Welcome to the Fusion 360 forum.

The short answer is no. Any changes to the Parameters dialog causes a compute to happen.

The best way to manage this is by keeping component features entirely within components. On the forum here it is called "Rule #1"

Rule #1:

Create a component

Make it active

Add sketches, bodies and features

If you activate your components it keeps the compute to a minimum because components that have no changes will not be computed.

If, however, your parameter table edits touch every component, you will have a longer compute.

Thanks, and please let me know if you have more questions.

This app might help but I havn't tried it. It allows export of all parameters to a csv file you can open in a spreadsheet then reimport, probably only worth the hassle if you're changing a lot of parameters.

https://apps.autodesk.com/FUSION/en/Detail/Index?id=1801418194626000805&appLang=en&os=Win64

Hey,

Thanks. That ansewrs it.
Yes, I have been introduced to Rule #1 and it does help with the computing
time 😄

However it would help to be able to introduce more than one change before
computing and then checking for errors in the model. Like when you render -
you first make many changes to materials and lights and then you render
once.
But it may be that you have to compute after each modification so to keep
errors checked for each change made. In my case, I know that for the first,
lets say two changes in the parameters table, I will get errors but when I
give in the third change everything realigns and that's when the possible
errors actually matter.

Well, thanks for the welcome and for the answer.
Cheers,
Sorin

Glad to help. This is definitely something that's been considered before. I don't recall what the challenge was but it's worth a new look as people are making larger models with Fusion these days. Thanks for the post!
