Relations between bodies/components

Hi all,

As you can understand, I'm a bit more skilled in practical sheet metal use but newbie in Fusion 360 and in sheet metal module, so please allow me to do some questions:

1. Is there a way to link the edges or the dimensions of one components or of a body to edges or dimensions of other body or components? Let's say that I have a hole in a part and I want to put a shaft in that hole and link their diameters so when I change the shaft diameter, also the hole diameter changes automatically... is this possible?

2. I'm trying to project an edge of the flat surface of a cylinder on the flat surface of a block (they are one over the other and they are two bodies) but invoking the project command, I can't select the edge...Why?

3. In an assembly I've to modify an object that is partially hidden by other objects, so I can't reach the faces of the object to edit... How can I do? Is there a way to make that parts be transparent at selections? Or to select through faces?

1) When you project features from any body to any sketch, the projected feature is linked back to that original feature. Change the original feature, and the projected feature, and any features referenced to the projected feature, will change.

2) As with nearly all CAD system, what you "see" is created by stacking layers of entities (sketch lines, bodies, etc.) on top of each other. To select a specific entity within the stack, it is sometimes necessary to turn off visibility of some or all of the unwanted layers, by clicking on the little lightbulb icons to the left of each entity in the browser.

3) Same as #2 above. You sometimes have to hide features/bodies/etc., or change the view position, to make others visible for selection.

I find it is generally best to have ONLY the specific item you're actually working on visible when editing. Otherwise, you may not be selecting quite what you think you're selecting. For example, if you're editing a sketch hide EVERYTHING but that one sketch except when you're projecting a feature into the sketch.

Gooday Marco,

The Project command works inside sketches, create or edit sketches for the processes you are needing to work.

Example, you may have a sketch that the block came from, if the shaft came after that, then you need another sketch for the current operation.

Create sketch on the top face of the block, you can now project the face of the shaft into this sketch.

The next bit is to create an offset circle for the shaft hole, dimensioning the two circles with relevance to each other.

Example, shaft is 12mm, then dimension the outer circle as 0.1mm from the inner circle, if you change the shaft to 14mm, the clearance will move too,

You can do this with prameter names as well.

I think that is what you are asking....

Yes, Dave! That solved... but I don't understand... Maybe I'm twisty Mah.

The workflow you mentioned, is the same nearly in all cad parametric associative systems and I applied it, so the results should be correct instead of not correct. I don't know...

I did exactly as you described but yesterday it does not work... now it works, instead. Boh.

Ok, but it sounded like you may have been trying to Project / Dimension outside the sketches, in Modelling Mode.
