Use the combine command in the modify menu. Select the body you want to cut and then select the parts you want to fit the holes. then select the cut option and the keep tools option. Hide any other parts you don't want cut then hit ok and see what you get.

I am very new to Fusion 360 (and CAD for that matter) and am hoping somebody can help with the following.

I have a body which has 3x locating dowels protruding from the base to aid with alignment when fitting the component to another.

Essentially the body screws on to a flat plate and I want the plate to have holes in it to match the dowels on the component fitting to it. The function being to ensure the correct alignment between the plate and the component.

I just cannot fathom out how to make the holes through the plate for the dowels using the dowels themselves as the means to make the holes.

The reason for using the the dowels themselves is I figure it is the best way to ensure the holes are in exactly the right place.

Can anybody please offer any advice?

Hi Jason,

I can't get it to work. Is it because the plate and the dowels are on separate components?

Actually try opening the actual components in the browser and selecting the desired bodies rather than selecting the component.

Thanks Jason,

Ok so I have some progress. I now have 2x new components.

Component 1 is the plate with the holes on the left hand side and component 2 is the same plate but with the holes on the right hand side. The dowels were part of 2x separate components.

Is there now a way to combine the 2x components so I only have 1 plate with the holes on both sides?

Use the same command to combine but this time select the join option and you will merge the selected parts.

Thanks again Jason,

I tried what you said but still could get it to work, however checking 'intersect' instead of 'cut' seems to have resolved it. I now have the plate with all the holes where I needed them. Whether this method has affected anything else I have no idea yet.

Appreciate your help.
