I'm curious if there is a quicker way to align an sketch object to origin, the object is not square or rectangle and I don't have a point in the corner.

I need to do this for each DXF I import as always the DXF drawing is not placed close to the origin point because the client exports just a small part of their drawing, and each time the drawing I import is in a different position.

So in this case I had to draw a point in the corner of the drawing, it wasn't to hard as I had 2 straight perpendicular lines, but sometimes the shape is not perpendicular or straight at all.

What is the quickest way to align the drawing to the origin? (In Cambam, a software that I used a lot, it's very easy as I just select the drawing , press ALIGN and insert 0 for each axis, this moves the drawing to the origin, no need to drag the drawing or make new points)

Also if I could see the imaginary corner points I see when I set the stock in the CAM module, that would be easier as I won't need to draw any new point, but it seems the corner points only show up when setting the model position relative to the chosen stock.

Here is a photo with my drawing, the point I had to create to be able to quickly align the part using POINT OT POINT option.

Hi ovisopa,

Your question looks more Fusion Design related and may get more attention posted in that forum.

In CAM workspace, it does not have a tool to align the geometry. And the stock points you mentioned, they are not shown/available in Model workspace, so they cannot be used to align the object.

Yes, I know, I used the REPORT button and ask a moderator to move the question to the DESIGN forum .. but it didn't happen, I was aware that I posted in the wrong category only after I submitted my post 😞

Maybe now a moderator sees this post and will move it in the correct forum

What I was looking for was a way to quick align something similar to the method bellow, in fusion I could do something quick enough, only after manually drawing a point in corner of the model, but being a round corner, it wasn't just a click away ... 🙂

<STRIKE>Since you were using Cambam, I'm assuming you want to generate gcode. In Fusion 360 CAM there is no need to move or align the drawing. When you create a new setup, set the Work Coordinate System to the lower left of the stock block. You can also set Z, X, and Y axes.</STRIKE>

<STRIKE> </STRIKE>

<STRIKE>If you want to move your sketch so the origin is at the lower left, first follow Rule#1. I don't think Fusion 360 has a bounds box yet, so you'll need to determine the limits of your sketch and move it manually by moving the component containing the sketch. If you're not following Rule#1 and you have geometry constrained by the Origin, you'll need to remove that constraint before moving the geometry. </STRIKE>

Ignore the above I think you're doing it the fastest way.... However, you may want to look at the API and use a script to do the aligning.

@etfrench I use CamBam to make the CAM part for my CNC router, I'm used to it and I do the CAM quite quickly. I wanted the align feature as most of the dxf files I got from clients are not aligned to the origin, they export only a part of their design, just the part I need to mill, and sometimes that part is maybe 2 meters away from the origin (the parts are usually small 5 - 30 cm) , so I wanted to see what is the quikest way to bring the imported part to Fusion model origin, sometimes, when I'm dragging the arrows in the MOVE command something weird happens and I have to make the move 2 or 3 times .. but I noticed that if I draw a new point in the corner, like you see in my initial post, right where the drawing is imported, I can quickly align it by Point to Point option in the MOVE command.

@SaeedHamza Thanks, this is what I do but the problem was that most of the parts are not rectangles (I don't have any point in the corner, I need to draw it), the parts have round corners, some of them big radius, or not an radius at all but a curved shaped, in those cases it was harder to draw a point right in the corner of the drawing.

Hi @ovisopa,

I don't think there is another way to align a sketch to the origin, but there is an easy way to do it if it's a normal radius at the angle of the sketch...

Just move the sketch by selecting one side of the curve to the origin, and then move the sketch by the value of the radius toward the origin

check this screencast please for better understanding ...
