Not sure if this answers your question, but it may help. If I have made something by a series of extrudes and cuts and patterns using different sketches, say like a spoked gearwheel, I export for laser cutting by starting a new sketch on the front surface, and projecting the geometry. This sketch can be saved as a DXF and allows me to cut out on the laser. I usually stop over in Draftsight in case cleanup is needed, for instance removing construction lines which are saved as cuttable lines. I just thought of asking that they should be ignored.

I have recently designed a few assemblies in fusion 360 and am unable to export a useable dxf for my laser cutter. Is the dxf export feature broken? or is there another problem. I have attached a sample fie in this link https://myhub.autodesk360.com/ue2bd32b0/data/permalink/DTaaf8cQT48ef1f7d11d805fd4c4a6f6238d

Your link is not public,

Are you trying to export the Assembly, as a whole?

"Save as dxf" is limited to sketches, that can be devoloped from sectioning the body or Component body,

and if this is not working we should be able to help with that.....

I have made the link public, my appologies, and yes I am right clicking on sketch one, saving as dxf and the dxf shows incomplete lines and is usually only 5-10kb instead of the 200+kb it should be. http://a360.co/2pIdxBV

Still can't download the file from the link. In the future export the design and save as an f3d and attach to your post, you'll get more people helping if they don't have to go to the trouble of downloading. There is an export option on the file menu. Might be worth attaching one of the DXF files as well.

I have attached the f3d and dxf files. Actually I just tried opening it in Autocad, and it does open, however my lasercut 5.3 software wont open it, and gives me an error saying its 99,000,004mm wide. interestingly If I open it then save it in Autocad it loads up just fine, however the file size changes from 22kb to 74kb. I have attached the fixed autocad version as well.

Sadly, DXF is a very "non-standard standard". There are a billion different versions of the DXF format and most programs that read DXFs only understand a few specific versions, making interchange via DXF very much a hit-or-miss proposition. You need to figure out what version(s) your lasercut software can accept, then figure out if Fusion can export in any of those versions.

Regards,

No, the .dxf feature is not broke. I've used it many times.

It's not a good idea to export the sketch that you used to design these parts with as a .dxf. IN your case that includes the center line on some of the parts and you laser cutter might complain about that as well. You .dxf files do however open fine with the Solid Works eDrawings viewer.

The best method to create a clean .dxf s to create a new sketch on top of one of these parts and the use the Sketch-> Project/Include-.Project tool to project the outlines of these parts into that sketch. That will also avoid any other double/overlapping lines in the .dxf.

I am aware of the extra lines(comstruction lines) because inventor makes them as well. However Inventor has plenty of options to select from when exporting a dxf file. Are there extra options for the type of dxf that fusion can export?

No there is no change you can do, but knowing the type of dxf the machine needs will help, there are free converters that can fix it for you.

If you can answer that a solid recommendation can be made to what to do.
