I've come to point with this design (can share with AD personnel) where I have a number of components that work fine, but have 2 components where I cannot see the bodies, even though the visibility of the component they are in and the bodies folder and the bodies themselves are set to visible as well.

I can select the body in the viewport and get a blue ghosted image of the body in the viewport, but I cannot do anything with them in the viewport.

The next component that is sill WIP but already had bodies in it is doing fine. @innovatenate any thoughts ?

Try playing your timeline from the start and see when they disappear. One thought that popped in my head was that they were mistakenly included in a "combine" operation that they weren't supposed to be.

Clearly my hiding technique failed...

Yes, certainly, if you want to share the design with me via PM, I'll take a look. Hopefully it's just a bad graphics attribute or something. It's good that the body does appear to still be there, because it highlights.

Hi Jeff,

No it did not work 😉

I will ask the project owner if he can invite you to the project. I exported the design into a .f3d and that file does not seem to have the problem. That's good and I can continue to work on it.

As always, your help is highly appreciated!!!

Thanks, @TrippyLighting and Pat. I can see the bad behavior here. I took a quick look, but did not see anything obvious. I think it is just a graphics visibility attribute problem (the evidence is the fact that you can export the design and do "Create Design From File", and everything is visible.

I sent this off to the graphics experts to help us maybe untangle this, and tell us how to fix it. They are in China, so hopefully they can make some progress tonight, our time.

If you have any idea what operations you were doing or had done recently when this started happening, that would be helpful. One question: Have you been using Isolate/Unisolate on this model? I only ask because that is one way to affect the visibility of components, without clicking on the lightbulbs, and we have had problems in the past (distant past, but still...) with these commands doing some bad things.

thanks,

I ran into this again last night and (at least in my case) had to do with switching the visibility of an object while moving the timeline around. I found that if I step back in the timeline until the object appears then toggle visibility off and back on then move the timeline it fixes the issue. Maybe that can help track it down if they are related. Sadly I can not share the file I was working on.

Spent some more time on this today.

First, can you invite chengyun.yang@autodesk.com to the project? I tried to save the design to my own project to share, but as you've noticed, this fixes the problem. So, I opened the design, and explored around a bit with the "6 mm Square 90 Degree 4 Way Corner Connector" component. And I found the most interesting thing by just exploring around the timeline: The body is fine up to the last stitch in that component. After that stitch, poof, the body is gone.

What we don't understand at this point is:

why this happens

what the real problem is: Just a graphics problem? Is the body inside out, so we are just seeing the back side of all the faces? Is the body still OK?

why this problem goes away when you save it to another project, yet does not go away if you just save it in place?

Just keeping the thread up to date...

Jeff

I'll have to talk to Pat to do so. However, I have repeated that problem with two or three other models in a copy of this design.

The culprit is the stitch command. After that the body becomes invisible. The last operation in each of the components is a split body operation to take a sliver of material off of the bottom. That operation makes these bodies visible again.

I also had 5 - 6 crashes just today when stitching surfaces together in this design. Looks like there is a good bit of cleanup to do in that code.

Hi @Anonymous, unfortunately no, the underlying problem has not been fixed yet. Are you willing to share your design with us, to see whether this is the same issue as Peter's? That would be helpful.

Thanks,

Jeff

This issues still occurs, a workaround is to delete the stitch feature then undo.

Video here,
no screencast as it has been discontinued to my understanding.
Debating on sending the f3d, though exporting and opening the copied f3d file does consistently recreate the issue on my end.

<video-js data-video-id="6364599511112" data-account="6057940548001" data-player="default" data-embed="default" class="vjs-fluid" controls="" data-application-id="" style="width: 100%; height: 100%;"></video-js>
(view in My Videos)
