I had to abandon the old design because it was too messed up and as I am getting tips from the Forum I am learning the correct way to use F360.

I have several old sketches that I need to copy into the new design - I am doing this correctly now by creating a new component first and then a sketch, extruding and then joining. These steps will solve many of the issues I had with the old project.

In the old project sketch I select then copy the sketch, move to the new project under the new component I create a sketch and paste it in. As you can see in the photo it is not aligned/joined/connected - whatever to the Origin.

How can I move this to the origin or have it 'pasted' into the correct place?

Thanks.

I may have just answered my own question and found the option on the Move/Copy menu - point to point. That appears to have moved my sketch to the Origin. Which brings up a new question What part or point in my sketch should I align with the Origin.

In the picture below. If I align Point A to the Origin, then part of the sketch (the lower tab) is below the plane of the floor the extruded body of this sketch will connect with. If I align Point B to the origin then the drawing extends to the left.

Maybe this makes no difference in the larger design when I create bodies and join components...

Move point to point the same point that was attached to the origin of the old sketch to the origin of the new sketch, and in some cases if the rotation of the sketch after paste is incorrect, just fix it with the pivot of the rotation set at that same point (which after moving point to point, it should be the new sketch origin), so if you've moved the sketch and rotated it, it must be identical to the origional sketch.

Because you are working with tabs and sockets, that sketch does not own the correct origin point.

Set the lowest horizontal line end point, horizontal to the origin

Set the vertical centre line end point - vertical to the origin.

You could draw lines to intersect at the correct origin, but I prefer to avoid the unnecessary work.

Because you are importing, the :Move tool does move a point to point to the origin when requested , but does not constrain to the origin, user has to do that as a separate operation.

Might help…
