Thanks etfrench and SaeedHamza for your suggestions,

this approach of creating a feature to assist with alignment has done the job.

It would be good if there was a way to anchor a body to a plane, so that aligning the plane would also move the body. It would really help for those bodies which don't have nice flat planes or straight edges for alignment.

Thanks again for your help!

Colin.

Align Body with Grid

Hi all,

I have a sculpted, internally symmetric body which is misaligned with the grid by 0.1 deg, causing problems down the road.

I have tried manually adjusting in small increments but cant get them aligned.

Tried flattening the points on the mirror plane in sculpt mode to the XY axis. Seems to carry out the command, but still misaligned - check by making a plane from 3 points of the model on the mirror plane, and comparing with XY axis. Off by 0.1 deg.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Colin.

Try creating a new component/body which is aligned with the grid and has an identical feature on the plane you want aligned. Use the Align command to move the mis-aligned component/body. You can also use one or more joints instead of the Align command if you need to align it on several planes.

Hi,

Aligning a body to the grid can be done using an origin plane ( the XY plane )

If you want your design to be completely aligned to the origin, you can also extrude cut a rectangle sketched from the origin going down like in this screencast and then align it if not positioned to the origin. Again watch this screencast for better understanding

Regards
