Hello all,

I have a problem using the pattern command in Fusion 360. I have attached a zip file with 2 design files in it. One file shows that the pattern is working as expected and it is a test file to make sure I understood how to use the pattern command. The other file, which is the design project I am working on and I can't get the spoke to circulate in any pattern design. The correct pattern shows up in the preview but when I click "OK" an error message comes up. The error is: "C-Pattern1 / Compute failed / The face selection is too complex to pattern. Try adding or removing from the selection." The whole spoke is highlighted by left-click, drag left to right and it is blue in color. Not sure if the angle that the spoke is at is the problem or what. I think that might be part of the problem but I don't know why nor how to get around it. I have been using Fusion 360 for about a month, so I am quite new at this and hopefully missing something basic and simple. I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction to get this to work by explaining to me what I am doing wrong. Thanks for any and all help with this problem.

Bill

Hey @Anonymous,

Thanks for including your parts in your initial posting! It makes it a lot easier to debug the issues. I just spent a little time looking at your files and it looks like you got tripped up by using the join option for your extrusions rather than creating new bodies or components, and that's what made it difficult to pattern your spokes. Since I'm sure that's confusing, I just created a little screencast illustrating what I mean. Let me know if you have any additional questions!

Wow guys!! Thanks for the assistance and explaining my problem. lucasproko, your video is perfect and explained it very well so I could understand it. Not realizing what the different options other than cut is in the operations drop down sure bit me. I will research all of those operations to learn what each one does and when to use them. etfrench, I guess he beat you to it, but your answer would have helped if you were the first - thanks. I went back and fixed the problems in my design and now it patterns as required correctly.

My kudos to Autodesk for making such a great product that is a joy to use and makes CAD design fun again.

Bill
