Hi,

I have a cup that is of an irregular shape and I'm going to use it as a mould to cast a resin male of the inside.

The cup is at finished size but I need to add a rim around it that tapers outwards by 5 degrees to a height of about 10mm in order to provide an overfill area as well as a draft for the vacuum former.

I've looked at loads of videos and tried lots of tools in Sketch, sculpt and patch but just get confused.

Attached is a screenshot of the cup, as-is, and another indicating the sort of lip that I am looking to add.

My background, as you can tell is not in 3D, rather it is years of CorelDraw.

Any help very gratefully received.

Thanks,

Steve.

Hi Phil,

Thanks for responding.

I think I may have got there. 🙂

I selected the outer edges and created an offset in Sketch. I then pulled the sketch to the height I needed and applied a chamfer to the inside edge. This actually gave me a small flange, which is useful as well as the draft.

Screenshot attached.

Probably totally the wrong way to do it, though.

Steve.

It's not the wrong way, there are actually many ways you can do this. Here is another one to get the correct draft.
