This is a little embarrassing as I'm sure it's incredibly simple, but I've been searching for 2 hours and haven't figured it out yet. How do you reference sketch geometry or a feature such as a hole to another component in an assembly in a linked fashion?

Example: in solidworks I can place part A on part B, then create the fastener hole on part B referenced to part A's through hole. When I move part A on part B, the hole feature on part B moves based on how I moved part A. It's not clear to me how to do this in fusion.

Project works fine for creating the initial sketch and feature, but the projection is not by default linked to the origin component so when I move part A, the corresponding feature on part B remains in it's original projected location

Thanks

I believe you are looking for the project geometry command. Sketch panel >Project/Include.

Thanks for the reply, Project works fine for creating the initial sketch and feature, but the projection is not by default linked to the origin component so when I move part A, the corresponding feature on part B remains in it's original projected location

You have to remember that, in Fusion, the entire design is timeline-based. So if you have projected geometry from one component, then later move that component, it will not affect the projection, because that happened before the component was moved. To get the behavior you want, you will need to roll back before the sketch that includes the projection, move the component, and do a Capture Position. Then, the projection should update correctly.

That's helpful in explaining the reason why that feature doesn't exist in Fusion. Is there another workflow or toolset in Fusion that allows the same end result? I love Fusion so far but designing assemblies with interconnecting parts is a substantial portion of my work.

Thanks!

If you could post some examples, of designs where you've encountered difficulties that would really help. Also a screencast might be of great help.

No screencast I'm sorry to say because I don't know how to make this work in Fusion at this time. Here's how it works in solidworks.

https://youtu.be/D3cLIWA2wtY

Part A (green) is secured to part B (black) with 3 screws. In solidworks I use the hole wizard (which I REALLY wish Fusion had) to add 3 #6 threaded holes to part B so that Part A can be secured to Part B with 3 fasteners.

Simple enough to do with projection in Fusion.

The place where this falls apart is when I need to make a change. In solidworks if I find that I need to move Part A by 5mm to create clearance for a cable run, I simply move the part and the referenced holes on Part A move accordingly.

How would I go about accomplishing the same thing in fusion?

Thanks!

Here's how you would do that in Fusion. Warning, I did not have a chance to watch your video, so it may not be the exact same workflow. But, it should illustrate the basic idea:
