Dear all,

it would be gerat if someone could help me with the following issue. If I paste a SVG-file F360 becomes really slow and in some cases it broke down. Does anyone have an advice how I can fix this?

Or does anyone know an another way how I can get a picture in a pdf file into F360? Actually I use inkscape, but the problem with this is that it have only the SVG-format as compatible format to import it to F360.

Best regards,

Sven

It completely depends how big the SVG is. For an SVG with hundreds or thousands of curves and lines, Fusion sketch is not going to perform well. You need to remember that Fusion sketching is a constrained CAD environment, it is not like Inskscape. So, do not attempt to try to import a large SVG into Fusion. Can you share the SVG here? What do you hope to do with this SVG?

wow. That SVG has over 13,000 curves in it. Fusion sketch will struggle after a few hundred. I'm surprised that even inserts...

I would chunk this up into multiple SVGs. I did that, and extracted one of the words. This one still contains almost 1500 curves, and sketch will struggle with that, but it will be much better.

This works pretts well.

If it successfully converted into F360 can I convert the logo into something that F360 can better handle?

And is it possible to insert the svg in the smallest size and than just scale it up on that size I need it?

Best regards,

Sven

@Anonymous @jeff_strater

I looked at the SVG and the word in it. Where do you have it from? I tried to identify the font via Whatthefont.com.

Regarding your SVG from a graphic designer's stand of point it is less ideal quality - it is actually junk.

Ideally you want to find the font and then create clean paths of it. The end result will also be better.

If you cannot get the font there are two ways:

1. Simplify the design but those auto smooth commands often change also fine details

2. You pick the vector editing tool of your choice and start retracing the letter shapes. As you see I use few nodes and round

corners I do via individual corner effects so I can always adjust them later!

3. well if you are not familiar with type design or a vector tool you can also do all that right in Fusion - which actually

might make even more sense as you can use sketch constraints and such and do fillets as solid modeling features

and keep the sketch nice and clean to adjust

file is attached.

@Anonymous @jeff_strater

For step 1 and 2 I used Gravit Designer a free Macromedia Freehand clone

it is Mac win and web based. I prefer it over Inkscape.

For step 3 splines are not that hard.

the trick is finding the right amount of fit points.

Less is often more

you can use also curvature comb to check them

and use offset and parallel tools to make sure your

letter thickness is uniform

And when doing this in fusion tangent constraints are a killer feature

to have vs the vector tricks one has to use in a font design app

like fontograph.

Does this help?

Bumping this thread because this problem shouldn't still exist. I'm importing a 24KB .svg file to try and emboss onto a model.

Fusion 360 developers will chime in and say some nonsense about constrained sketch environments and Fusion 360 can't possibly be expected to handle more than 300 curves in 2021. Surely there is a workaround. Surely you can fix this problem.

This problem has been documented since 2014 in these very forums! How are you not able to solve this or create a workaround? What are you even doing about the problem?
