Unwanted edge?

Hi Folks,

Transitioning from Vectorworks and have been tearing my hair out doing simple things. I can see why it will be better but frustrating right now. So I created a fairly simple sweep. The path is constructed of a spline which I need the tail to be flat on so I joined with coincident.

When I create the sweep there are unwanted edges at the point where the spline and flat line meet. I can select these in the model but can't seem to get them t go away. Whats weird is they are only on the top and bottom faces, I've tried everything and just ran out of coffee!

Okay under very close inspection it seems this is not a single edge but rather a wedge that is created between the curve and flat section of the profile. I need these to all be a single surface. It's odd to me that it doesn't appear on the sides.

Can you share your design here? I suspect that it can be fixed, but it's hard to say for sure without seeing your design.

Adding a tangent constraint will help but I think you'll still have a seam\join. On the side faces as they're planar they will merge so you don't get seams.

I just tested something similar and the only way I could get single surfaces was to disable history then in the patch workspace use Merge. Don't know if you're going to be happy with removing history from the design.

Mark is right - there will probably always be an edge. Your goal should be to get rid of that sliver face, but the edge will be there. However, to be clear, the edge itself is not a problem. Basically, you shouldn't worry about that. If you don't want to see it, you can switch to "shaded" mode for the Visual Style".

You might find it works if you use a centre line loft. You'll need a profile at both ends of the path and the path needs to have a tangent or smooth constraint between the line and spline.
