I am trying to move an object, and I would like to place the origin of my move at the center snap point. When every I try to move in that direction, either all points disappear, or it snaps to some other point. I am not able to freeze the snap points so I can select one.

I thought I remember reading if you hold the ctrl key down, it would lock them so you can select them, but that doesn't work, and I have tried many other key combinations with no success.

Is this possible?

Hi @changedsoul

Thanks for posting! Holding down the CTRL key should allow you to pick the center point - on Macs you will use the CMD key instead. Also, placing the mouse cursor over one of the circular edges in the hole at the front of your part should make the Move pivot point snap to the centerpoint.

You could also consider creating a sketch point within the component being moved at the desired pivot point and select it if you continue to experience problems.

Please let me know if this helps - I am happy to take a look at the behavior you are experiencing if you would like to create a screencast or share your design with me!

The ctrl key, that's what I thought, but it's not working. I tried to record a screen cast but it kept crashing.
Perhaps it's how fusion is configured that changes the behavior of the ctrl key?

Hi @changedsoul

Thanks for the response! I had a look at your crash reports and did not see any for this morning? Were you given the option to submit one? Or was it Screencast that crashed rather than Fusion? I have seen some issues with Screencast lately - usually uninstalling and reinstalling Screencast has worked to fix the issue.

I played with this a bit more on my end and found that the CTRL trick does not really work with the Move command like it does when defining a Joint origin - my apologies for not catching this earlier! I tested with very simple geometry (a straight, uniform hole through a box) earlier and must have tricked myself into thinking it worked the same... it can be difficult with more complex geometry. I would suggest that you create a post to include the UI (holding CTRL or CMD to maintain the currently shown snap points) in the Move dialogue at the Fusion 360 Ideastation - you will certainly have my vote! There are no settings related to this UI behavior, so I believe that this is working as intended in the Move command.

To move forward with your current design, I have found that hovering over one of the circular edges at the edge of a feature like yours seems to snap the pivot to the midpoint - is this working in your design? Is it possible for you to create a sketch point at the desired pivot location? If you'd like to attach your design and describe where the pivot point should be I am happy to have a look!

Yes some times I am able to get it to select the correct point by moving it all over and hope it snaps. This particular one is proving to be a bit of a pain.

I have tried drawing a sketch, but for some unknown reason, I am unable to select the point on the sketch at all. Like its ignoring it.

You can also create a sketch on the same plane as the Origin point, then project the geometry. This should create a sketch point at the Origin point which you can then use as the Origin point in the Move|Point to Point dialog.

Seems really stupid having to clutter up designs with unnecessary sketches just to work around a bug where someone forget to include the ctrl key in the move command. Yeah, lets replace a keyboard shortcut with a new sketch for each use..

The point is not nonexistent, it is perfectly clear when mouse is over the surface surrounding the hole/cavity/feature, but as soon as the mouse leaves the surface towards the center of the hole/cavity/feature the points disappears making selection impossible. exactly as in the original post, and the video posted later. When doing joints the ctrl key keeps the surfaces points visible when leaving, for example into a hole or cavity, making it possible to select the center point of a cylindrical hole. When trying to do the exact same thing with a move its impossible, and the suggested "solution" to a missing key binding is creating extra sketches?

If as you say the bug has been fixed, how do i attach the pivot point to the center point of that slot?

It is almost always better (and easier) to use a joint than the Move tool. Each move requires the compute engine to calculate the position of every object for each move.

That is exactly how it should work and how i want it to work! 😃

And I know wich key is the ctrl key (using regular pc and win 10) but for me it dosn't work like that. the pivot point gets lighter grey when i press ctrl, and it is still impossible to select the correct point. I'll install the screen capture software and try to record it. But it feels like my ctrl key is not getting trough to fusion, can it have been rebound to something else?

Were you able to fix that bug? This post is from 2017, I can't believe it didn't get fixed!
